That includes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox6now.com\/tag\/us\/wi\/fond-du-lac-county\/fond-du-lac\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Fond du Lac<\/a>, near Park and Merrill, as well as Appleton and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox6now.com\/tag\/us\/wi\/brown-county\/green-bay\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Green Bay<\/a>. He said he took the photos in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox6now.com\/tag\/us\/wi\/sheboygan-county\/sheboygan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sheboygan<\/a> on May 8, but would not share an exact location, and said the bird was eating, drinking and flying \u2013 apparently OK.<\/p>\n<p> What is a marabou stork? <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WITI\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-871f4c88=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-871f4c88=\"\">Marabou storks are native to sub-Saharan Africa but have an &#8220;extremely large range,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/seaworld.org\/animals\/facts\/birds\/marabou-stork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to SeaWorld<\/a> \u2013 inhabiting savannas, grasslands, swamps and areas where fish are concentrated.<\/p>\n<p data-v-871f4c88=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixzoo.org\/explore\/animals\/marabou-stork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Phoenix Zoo said marabou storks<\/a> stand up to 5 feet tall and weigh nearly 20 pounds with typical wingspans up to 9 feet, though wider wingspans have been reported.<\/p>\n<p data-v-871f4c88=\"\"><a class=\"in-cell-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fox6now.com\/newsletters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>SIGN UP TODAY: Get daily headlines, breaking news emails from FOX6 News<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-871f4c88=\"\">For comparison, the <a href=\"https:\/\/dnr.wisconsin.gov\/topic\/WildlifeHabitat\/orphan\/SandhillCrane\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources<\/a> said sandhill cranes \u2013 one of the largest birds native to Wisconsin \u2013 can grow up to 5 feet tall with wingspans up to seven feet.<\/p>\n<p data-v-871f4c88=\"\">The large birds can live up to 20 years in captivity, <a href=\"https:\/\/seaworld.org\/animals\/facts\/birds\/marabou-stork\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">SeaWorld notes<\/a>, but it&#8217;s unknown how long they live in the wild. As scavengers, their diet primarily consists of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/carrion\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">carrion<\/a> \u2013 fish, some insects, small reptiles, rodents and even other birds.<\/p>\n<p> Where did the stork come from? <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WITI\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-871f4c88=\"\">What they&#8217;re saying:<\/p>\n<p data-v-871f4c88=\"\">It&#8217;s not clear where the stork came from, but Thompson has his suspicions.
