Anthony Albanese<\/strong> is continuing to stick the knife in to the Liberal party<\/a> after it lost its seat of Farrer to One Nation, saying he wasn\u2019t that surprised the minor party won.<\/p>\n Former Liberal leader Sussan Ley<\/strong> resigned from Parliament earlier this year after she was ousted by Angus Taylor<\/strong>, sparking the byelection.<\/p>\n Speaking to 4CA radio Cairns, Albanese says the Liberals and Nationals \u201cdon\u2019t really stand for anything anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n But Albanese doesn\u2019t believe that One Nation\u2019s win will spread any further across the country \u2013 despite Barnaby Joyce saying this morning that his party was coming for Western Sydney<\/a>.<\/p>\n double quotation markI wasn\u2019t really that surprised \u2026 If the Liberal Party just tried to be One Nation lite, then they shouldn\u2019t be surprised that people will vote for the real thing, rather than the lighter version of it.<\/p>\n I\u2019m not sure that One Nation\u2019s appeal will go beyond the sort of seat that we\u2019ve seen and where they traditionally have done okay. I think the problem for them is that they really focus on grievance rather than solutions. They\u2019re not really a party of government.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Share<\/a><\/p>\n \u2018No plans\u2019 for a Coalition with One Nation<\/a>, says O\u2019Brien<\/strong><\/p>\n Ted O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, the shadow foreign minister and former deputy leader under Sussan Ley<\/strong>, says the Liberal party<\/a> will learn the lessons of Saturday\u2019s byelection loss \u2013 but that won\u2019t involve looking towards a Coalition with One Nation.<\/p>\n Speaking to RN Breakfast earlier this morning, he said the loss wasn\u2019t all about the leadership changes within the Liberal and National parties. He adds that One Nation is a \u201cbroad movement\u201d and that it\u2019s \u201cdoing a good job of amplifying the problems\u201d.<\/p>\n double quotation markWe have no plans for going into a coalition with One Nation. Again, if we focus on the Australian people, if we focus on developing substantive policy. If we focus on removing this very poor Albanese government, that puts us in good stead. And talking to people last night in the western suburbs of Sydney, last night, they\u2019re quite at home with the idea of One Nation being a dominant force in western Sydney. Absolutely 100% on board with the idea.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Just a reminder here though, with now two seats in the lower house, the party still has a fair way to go to the 76 needed to form government.<\/p>\n Share<\/a><\/p>\n Updated at\u00a018.24 EDT<\/p>\n Albanese defends breaking promise to not touch negative gearing and CGT<\/strong><\/p>\n Good government makes \u201cthe right decisions for the right reasons for the times that you are in\u201d, says Albanese, when asked why the government will reform negative gearing and capital gains tax in tomorrow\u2019s budget.<\/p>\n Host Sally Sara<\/strong> asks if the PM is about to break a promise, and does that play into the narrative of people\u2019s frustration with the major parties.<\/p>\n Albanese won\u2019t say explicitly that the two policies are being changed tomorrow, but says intergenerational inequality needs to be dealt with.<\/p>\n He tells RN Breakfast that housing is a key priority for the government \u2013 and the government will use all levers at its disposal, including accelerating supply.<\/p>\n double quotation markWe know people are under pressure. And the easy path is to say, oh, well, we\u2019ll just sit back and watch that occur. The difficult decision, but the right decision is to do the right thing with the right policies to deliver. And clearly, people are frustrated. Issues like intergenerational equity. We\u2019ve heard the message loud and clear. We need to rebuild trust.<\/p>\n It\u2019s only been 10 weeks that Angus Taylor has been the leader, and fewer than that that Matt Canavan has been a leader of the National party. I think that the breaking up of the Coalition twice just in the last 12 months alone has been a pretty devastating breach of trust for the Australian people. They expect a united and strong coalition. It was a vote of relief, someone seeking a better future.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Farley is an interesting character because his stance on migration<\/a> is slightly more nuanced that leader Pauline Hanson<\/strong>\u2019s. None of the passengers have symptoms of the virus, according to government sources. The Australians live in NSW and Queensland.<\/p>\n double quotation markThe Australian Government is working closely with state authorities to coordinate arrival, health and transport arrangements. Quarantine and health arrangements are managed by states in accordance with their public health requirements.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n The flight is expected to land in Perth on Tuesday, with quarantine arrangements being finalised. It\u2019s expected the passengers will be transferred directly to a quarantine location upon arrival. Photograph: Mick Tsikas\/AAPShare<\/a><\/p>\n Updated at\u00a017.20 EDT<\/p>\n Budget to include $500m for faster environmental approvals Tomorrow night\u2019s federal budget will include $500m in new funding for faster approvals for housing, energy and critical minerals projects, part of changes to national environment laws.<\/p>\n The government will also provide funding to states and territories to speed up environmental assessments around the country.<\/p>\n As part of the plans, $105.9m will be spent over four years to provide better access to information needed for approvals, including using AI to better access environmental data.<\/p>\n Labor passed major changes to Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act last year, and sluggish approval times have been identified as a key area of delays across the economy.
