A United Airlines flight headed to Houston from Mexico was forced to divert Sunday afternoon after the crew reported a mechanical issue and declared an emergency.<\/p>\n
According to United Airlines, Flight 579 was traveling from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to Houston when the Airbus A320 diverted to Monterrey, Mexico.<\/p>\n
The aircraft was carrying 143 passengers and five crew members.<\/p>\n
United confirmed that passengers deplaned normally after landing safely in Monterrey. The airline said a replacement aircraft has been arranged to bring customers to Houston.<\/p>\n
\u201cPassengers deplaned normally and we have arranged for a different aircraft to take customers to Houston,\u201d a spokesperson said in a statement to KPRC 2. <\/p>\n
Flight tracking data showed the aircraft declared an emergency before diverting.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported. United has not released additional details about the nature of the mechanical problem.<\/p>\n
