Iran&#8217;s semi-official\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/10\/tanker-crosses-strait-of-hormuz-as-us-awaits-iran-response-.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tasnim news agency said<\/a> that the counteroffer called for an end to the war on all fronts and the lifting of sanctions on Tehran, citing an informed source.<\/p>\n<p>However, Trump said he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116552102914488206\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">did not like<\/a>\u00a0Iran&#8217;s response and called it &#8220;TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!&#8221; in a Truth Social Post. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/benjamin-netanyahu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>\u00a0said Sunday that the war with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/10\/tanker-crosses-strait-of-hormuz-as-us-awaits-iran-response-.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran<\/a>\u00a0is &#8220;not over,&#8221; as the U.S. and Israel still aim to curb Tehran&#8217;s nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>Netanyahu&#8217;s comments come ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trump<\/a>&#8216;s trip to China later this week, where he&#8217;s expected to meet with Chinese President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/xi-jinping\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Xi Jinping<\/a>. The war and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran have spiked global energy costs and sharply raised gas prices in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@CL.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Texas Intermediate<\/a>\u00a0futures for June was 3.39% higher at $98.65 per barrel as of 8:06 p.m. ET.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@LCO.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brent crude<\/a>\u00a0futures for July rose 3.37% to $104.66 per barrel.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s Kospi opened 3.67% to a fresh record, while the small-cap Kosdaq was marginally higher. Index heavyweight SK Hynix rose 9.61%, tracking U.S. chip-related equities which surged Friday.  <\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0added 0.81%, while the Topix gained 0.32%. Nintendo shares fell 6.63%, as investors digested news that the game developer will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/08\/nintendo-switch-2-price-hike-sales-fall-memory-crunch.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hike<\/a> Switch 2 prices while expecting a decline in console sales. <\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s S&amp;P\/ASX 200 was 0.71% lower.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0futures were at 26,250, lower than the index&#8217;s last close of 26,393.71.<\/p>\n<p>Stock Chart IconStock chart icon<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static-redesign.cnbcfm.com\/dist\/a54b41835a8b60db28c2.svg\" class=\"Collapsible-dismissButton\" alt=\"hide content\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@DJ.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Futures<\/a>\u00a0tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 143 points, or 0.3%.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@SP.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500 futures<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/@ND.1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq 100 futures<\/a>\u00a0each also lost 0.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s moves come after the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.SPX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P 500<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.IXIC\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0rallied more than 2% and 4%, respectively, last week.
