X-rays were negative on Willson Contreras<\/a><\/strong>\u2018 right hand after the Red Sox<\/strong> first baseman was hit by a 94mph pitch from Nick Martinez<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 The bruised hand forced Contreras out of the game after the first inning, and Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters (including the Boston Globe\u2019s Tim Healey<\/a>) that it isn\u2019t yet known if Contreras will undergo an MRI or more in-depth testing.\u00a0 The Red Sox don\u2019t play on Monday, so Tracy said the team will use the off-day to \u201ckind of reevaluate and see how he feels.\u201d<\/p>\n

Contreras is off to a flying start in his first season in Boston, hitting .259\/.380\/.467 with eight homers through 166 plate appearances.\u00a0 The veteran first baseman has been one of the few bright spots in an underachieving Red Sox lineup, so the offense will be further hampered if Contreras has to spend any time on the injured list.<\/p>\n
