{"id":788230,"date":"2026-05-11T07:03:01","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T07:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/788230\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T07:03:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T07:03:01","slug":"spencer-jones-first-career-hit-was-pretty-special-yankees-mothers-day-moment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/788230\/","title":{"rendered":"Spencer Jones&#8217; first career hit was &#8216;pretty special&#8217; Yankees Mother&#8217;s Day moment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MILWAUKEE \u2014 Spencer Jones\u2019 first series as a big leaguer is in the books, but not before collecting his first career hit.<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees top prospect got that out of the way Sunday, in the third game of his major league career, smoking an RBI single to center field off Brewers righty Logan Henderson in the second inning of a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/10\/sports\/yankee-swept-by-brewers-on-walk-off-homer-by-brice-turang\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">4-3 loss at American Family Field<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Henderson threw a first-pitch slider and Jones pounced on it, drilling it 106.4 mph off the bat to score Jos\u00e9 Caballero from second for the 2-0 lead. <\/p>\n<p>The milestone hit came on Mother\u2019s Day, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/10\/sports\/yankees-rookie-spencer-jones-gets-first-career-hit-with-mom-in-stands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">with Jones\u2019 mom and family sitting next to the Yankees dugout<\/a>, as they did all weekend, including his MLB debut Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was super exciting,\u201d said Jones, who had the ball in a case sitting in his locker after the game. \u201cI\u2019m glad my family was here to share that with me. Teammates rooting me on, a lot of congratulations. I was excited to get a run across too for the guys. Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>Jones\u2019 new teammates were equally excited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEcstatic,\u201d said Aaron Judge, who was impressed by how \u201ccomposed\u201d Jones was throughout the series. \u201cEverybody was kind of waiting for it. Just happy his family could be here for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones finished the game 1-for-4 with a strikeout and the series 1-for-9 with five strikeouts and a walk, getting a stiff test from a challenging Brewers pitching staff that shut down most of the Yankees all weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the days have gone, I\u2019ve settled in more and starting to feel more comfortable, doing what I can do,\u201d Jones said. \u201cI think moving forward, going to be in a good spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old (who turns 25 on Thursday) started in right field Sunday, with Judge getting a DH day, after starting in center Saturday and DH on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.50146628;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39340441\" width=\"886\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/new-york-yankees-outfielder-spencer-127419148_0e2611.jpg\" alt=\"New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones hitting an RBI single against the Milwaukee Brewers.\" class=\"wp-image-39340441\"  \/>Spencer Jones singles for his first MLB hit during the Yankees\u2019 May 10 game. USA TODAY Network via Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought he had some good at-bats,\u201d manager Aaron Boone said. \u201cI thought got some decent swings off, was recognizing the zone.
