(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.waff.com\" title=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WAFF<\/a>) &#8211; Sydney Houston is headed to the National Golden Gloves Tournament.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Houston, a Tanner, Alabama native fell in love with the sport of boxing after competing as a standout basketball player.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI really came into the gym because I used to play basketball,\u201d Houston said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cAnd I had quit basketball.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">So I was really looking for, you know, just like an outlet to still work out and stay in shape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Houston won a Regional Golden Gloves Tournament to advance to the Golden Gloves Nationals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cYou\u2019re trying to get 1% better every day,\u201d Houston added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cRome wasn\u2019t built overnight, so we just come in here and we keep our head down and we stay focused.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The National Golden Gloves Tournament is May 11-15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@waff48news\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@waff48news\">Click Here to Subscribe on YouTube:<\/a> Watch the latest WAFF 48 news, sports &amp; weather videos on our YouTube channel!<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WAFF.
