{"id":788395,"date":"2026-05-11T09:01:15","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T09:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/788395\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T09:01:15","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T09:01:15","slug":"a-big-step-forward-for-optical-core-of-chinas-taiji-gravitational-wave-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/788395\/","title":{"rendered":"A big step forward for optical core of China\u2019s Taiji gravitational wave project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the sci-fi novel <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/abacus\/culture\/article\/3099856\/netflix-adaptation-liu-cixins-three-body-problem-faces-skepticism?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Three-Body Problem<\/a>, humans build \u201cgravitational wave antennas\u201d to broadcast to the cosmos.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Now, Chinese scientists have made a step forward in turning that idea into hardware \u2013 only in reverse.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Science and Technology Daily reported on Saturday that a team from the Institute of Mechanics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences had developed the optical core of a giant space detector to listen to the universe.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The detector is part of a space-based gravitational wave project called Taiji that is designed to pick up gravitational waves rippling through the fabric of space and time.<\/p>\n<p>These waves are created when really massive objects \u2013 like <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/china\/science\/article\/3274744\/chinese-led-team-delves-black-hole-mystery-heart-galaxies?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">black holes<\/a> \u2013 smash into each other, and detecting them could offer insight into the earliest moments of the universe.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cThe ground tests [of the optical core] were a success, and all the key numbers met the strict demands of the mission.
