{"id":78843,"date":"2025-07-20T20:14:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T20:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/78843\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T20:14:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T20:14:09","slug":"dave-portnoy-couldnt-help-but-praise-this-brilliant-angel-reese-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/78843\/","title":{"rendered":"Dave Portnoy couldn&#8217;t help but praise this &#8216;brilliant&#8217; Angel Reese move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/06\/16\/sports\/dave-portnoy-fumes-over-angel-reese-dana-evans-fouls-on-caitlin-clark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">longtime critic of Angel Reese<\/a>, pulled back his sarcasm this week to praise her business savvy.<\/p>\n<p>Portnoy shouted out the Chicago Sky star for trademarking \u201cMebounds\u201d after the term was directed at Reese in a slanderous way, poking fun at her missed layups commonly being secured as offensive rebounds by the two-time All-Star.<\/p>\n<p>In a comment on Reebok\u2019s announcement of Reese\u2019s signature sneaker colorway titled Angel\u202fReese\u202f1\u202fMebounds, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/stoolpresidente\/status\/1946581876421869987\">Portnoy wrote Saturday on X<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hate (sports sense) Angel Reese. Hate her. That\u2019s how much it pains me to admit how brilliant it was for her team to trademark Mebounds and make it her thing. Brilliant. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>This was more than a compliment, it marked a sharp contrast from Portnoy\u2019s previous criticisms of Reese. <\/p>\n<p>He famously took jabs after her clash with Caitlin Clark, and called her \u2014 among other things \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/04\/04\/jemele-hill-slams-dave-portnoy-for-classless-take-on-angel-reese-f-k-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">classless<\/a> on several occasions.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his ongoing support for Clark, Portnoy recognized Reese\u2019s move as a clever business play.<\/p>\n<p>Reese turned a mocking term in \u201cmebounds\u201d into a branding opportunity. <\/p>\n<p>Angel Reese, a two-time WNBA All-Star, has trademarked the term \u201cmebounds\u201d after it was used as a way to mock her.
