Kallas acknowledged that broader measures against Israel still lack support inside the bloc.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, when we tested this on Friday with the ambassadors, it seems that we do not have the necessary majority to pass these measures,\u201d she said, referring to a French-Swedish proposal targeting trade with West Bank settlements. \u201cBut really, what more can we do?\u201d<\/p>\n
Several ministers arriving in Brussels echoed Kallas\u2019 frustration at the EU\u2019s inability to move faster.<\/p>\n
Luxembourg Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel said that \u201cthere is no measure that we are able to take, simply because there are always countries that are hesitant.\u201d He added: \u201cSome people tell us that history means we are eternally indebted to Israel, but that does not excuse this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said she also looked forward to \u201csanctioning violent settlers on the West Bank,\u201d arguing that developments \u201cboth in Gaza and the West Bank have been quite worrying over past months.\u201d<\/p>\n
