CHICAGO (WLS) — May 15 marks the “frost-free date” for the Chicago area, meaning it should be safe to start blooming your garden.<\/p>\n

Horticulturist Jennifer Brennan says May 15 is a good time to plant Geraniums, Salvia, Impatiens, Begonias, Cannas, Tomatoes. Peppers, Squash and Cucumbers.<\/p>\n

As for flowers, Brennan says roses are also perfect for this time of year.<\/p>\n

It’s best to fertilize your lawn from May 15 to June 15.<\/p>\n

If there is more that 30% weed coverage, use a “weed & feed”. If there are less weeds, spot spray with a liquid herbicide after using a lawn fertilizer.<\/p>\n
