{"id":789016,"date":"2026-05-11T15:32:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T15:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/789016\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T15:32:18","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T15:32:18","slug":"misan-harriman-captures-the-fight-for-justice-in-shoot-the-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/789016\/","title":{"rendered":"Misan Harriman Captures the Fight for Justice in &#8216;Shoot the People&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/watermelon-pictures\/\" id=\"auto-tag_watermelon-pictures_1\" data-tag=\"watermelon-pictures\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Watermelon Pictures<\/a> has released its first trailer for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/shoot-the-people\/\" id=\"auto-tag_shoot-the-people_1\" data-tag=\"shoot-the-people\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shoot the People<\/a>, Andy Mundy-Castle\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/documentary\/\" id=\"auto-tag_documentary_1\" data-tag=\"documentary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">documentary<\/a> on photographer and activist Misan Harriman, and unveiled details of its U.S. and U.K. release of the film. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the trailer, provided exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter (watch below), we watch Harriman as he documents some of the defining protest movements of recent years, from the Black Lives Matter demonstrations that erupted after the killing of George Floyd to Free Palestine marches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe trailer cuts between Harriman\u2019s stark black-and-white photographs of protesters confronting police lines, crowds marching through city streets and scenes of political unrest, alongside footage of the photographer at work behind the camera. \u201cMy work is observing the human condition and making art that has purpose,\u201d Harriman says in the clip.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHarriman, who became the first Black photographer to shoot a cover for British Vogue, first gained widespread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/international\/\" id=\"auto-tag_international_1\" data-tag=\"international\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">international<\/a> attention for his images from the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. His subjects have also included figures such as Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett. His short film The After received an Oscar nomination in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMundy-Castle described his documentary as \u201ca film about perspective, power, and a collective sense of humanity,\u201d adding that the project aims to confront injustice rather than simply observe it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShoot the People premiered at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sxsw\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sxsw_1\" data-tag=\"sxsw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SXSW<\/a> and screened at DOC NYC. Producer Wyn Baptiste received the breakthrough producer prize at the British Independent Film Awards for the project, which was snatched up by Watermelon Pictures for the U.S. and U.K. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWatermelon will release the film in U.S. theaters with an opening at New York\u2019s Angelika Film Center, timed to coincide with Juneteenth. It is rolling the film out in the U.S. on June 26 in L.A. and several American cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Portland and Seattle, before going nationwide on July 3.
