They settled for the consolation prize of more matches than any of the 16 sites in the event co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>There are nine matches at the\u00a0retractable roof venue\u00a0with the giant video board hanging over the field in suburban Arlington, capped by a semifinal on July 14. The first match is exactly a month earlier, Japan vs. the Netherlands on June 14.<\/p>\n<p>World Cup heavyweights Argentina and England both have matches at Dallas Stadium, normally known as AT&amp;T Stadium.<\/p>\n<p> AP<\/p>\n<p>Dallas-Fort Worth is in the heart of American football country, but has World Cup roots after being one of the host cities in 1994.<\/p>\n<p>Landmarks\/places to see<\/p>\n<p>North Texas isn\u2019t teeming with tourist attractions, but the two most worth checking out are the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jfk.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">site of the JFK assassination<\/a>\u00a0in downtown Dallas and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortworthstockyards.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Fort Worth Stockyards<\/a>, just north of downtown. <\/p>\n<p>The twice-daily parade of longhorns in the stockyards is as pure Texana as it gets.<\/p>\n<p> Mexico\u2019s Javier Hernandez (14) celebrates with teammates after scoring a penalty kick during a friendly soccer match against Argentina at the AT&amp;T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. AP<\/p>\n<p>Food scene in Dallas-Fort Worth<\/p>\n<p>Tex-Mex and barbecue are musts, and the options are plentiful. There will be plenty more room for fans to roam in the 277-acre park.<\/p>\n<p>Transportation options<\/p>\n<p>Arlington is a city of about 400,000 without mass transportation. Officials are recommending a \u201cGoPass\u201d as the best way to access and pay for transportation. <\/p>\n<p>That would include DART, the light-rail system that services Dallas County. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>The 80,000-seat venue might look familiar to some visitors because the standing-room platforms at each end were a vision that grew out of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones\u2019 visits to Europe when the stadium was being designed. <\/p>\n<p>The home of Major League Baseball\u2019s Texas Rangers is right next to the World Cup venue. <\/p>\n<p>There will be plenty of opportunities to take in a baseball game during the month-long World Cup.
