Wilson last Saturday was caused of a heart disease, the <a href=\"https:\/\/me.lacounty.gov\/case-detail\/?caseNumber=2026-07549\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/me.lacounty.gov\/case-detail\/?caseNumber=2026-07549\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LA County Medical Examiner&#8217;s Office<\/a> confirmed Monday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/hiker-dies-mt-wilson-trail-sierra-madre\/3888673\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/hiker-dies-mt-wilson-trail-sierra-madre\/3888673\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Smythe<\/a>, 53, was found unresponsive before 10 a.m. along Mt. Wilton Trail in Sierra Madre. When first responders reached Smythe, his friends and other hikers had been doing CRP on him.<\/p>\n<p>The coroner&#8217;s office said the leading cause of his death was atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, also known as ASCVD, which is often caused by plaque buildup in arterial walls. The officials did not find anything suspicious about his death, ruling the manner of death was natural.<\/p>\n<p>Smythe&#8217;s death came a week after man died from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/man-dies-mt-wilson-trail-fall\/3884893\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/man-dies-mt-wilson-trail-fall\/3884893\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">falling into a ravine<\/a> from the same trailhead.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The death of a hiker on Mt.
