KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A standout homestand for Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. led him to top honors in the American League for the week.<\/p>\n

On Monday, MLB announced that Witt Jr. was the AL Player of the Week, after he went 11-for-27 over a seven-game homestand against division rivals. Witt Jr. tied for the American League lead in hits, extra-base hits, home runs (3) and runs (7).<\/p>\n

Witt Jr.\u2019s big week came on the heels of a trip to a local Kansas City elementary school<\/a>, where students chanted \u201cGo Bobby, go Bobby, go!\u201d He took those chants to heart Saturday evening at Kauffman Stadium, racing around the bases in 14.13 seconds for his second career inside-the-park home run.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old shortstop\u2019s big week helped the Royals go 4-3 over a homestand that featured games against the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers.<\/p>\n

Witt Jr. had hits in 6 of the 7 games, including a career-high tying 4-hit game against Cleveland on Thursday. He also walked in that game, reaching base for five times in a game for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n

The award for May 4-10 is the third AL Player of the Week award of Witt Jr.\u2019s career. It\u2019s the fifth time since 2024 that a Royal has won the award, which is tied for second-most in the AL.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Christopher Sanchez was named the NL Player of the Week.<\/p>\n
