Billy Bob Thornton<\/a>\u00a0is sharing his health challenges and how they led to his extreme diet.<\/p>\n

During a recent appearance on the \u201cHowie Mandel Does Stuff\u201d<\/a>\u00a0podcast, the 70-year-old actor revealed the lifelong health battle that has influenced his strange snacking choices.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy diet\u2019s very restricted. Well, I\u2019m allergic to wheat, dairy. I have type AB negative blood, which is the rarest type in the world. It\u2019s like less than 1% of the population of the world has it,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt means you have less digestive enzymes. That\u2019s one of the things that goes along with it. But I just grew up with a lot of allergies.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to list some of the dietary restrictions that come with his condition, saying he can\u2019t eat dairy, wheat or shellfish, as well as meat, including \u201cpork or beef or any of that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cBad Santa\u201d actor has gotten a handle on his health and nutrition, noting for breakfast that morning he had a bowl of blueberries, and that he planned to indulge in \u201csome gluten-free chips with some dairy-free cream cheese\u201d when he got home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was a kid, you know, I grew up in Arkansas and East Texas and I ate everything,\u201d he said. \u201cI just assumed everybody felt like s\u2014t after they ate. I didn\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

His many dietary restrictions have led to some adventurous snacking. During the interview, he discussed being in the green room before a\u00a0\u201cLandman\u201d Q&A event\u00a0and not seeing anything that was safe for him to eat.<\/p>\n

While looking at a plate of deli meats, cheeses and crackers, Thornton found some grapes he could munch on, and after thinking, \u201cOK, so I\u2019ll be bored as hell with this,\u201d he found an unlikely item to pair it with.<\/p>\n

\u201cI dipped this grape in the Dijon mustard,\u201d he said. \u201cIt had It was one of the best things I ever had in my lifetime. So now it\u2019s become a thing for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a younger actor, Thornton was known for undergoing drastic body transformations for his roles, but during an interview on\u00a0\u201cLate Night with Seth Meyers,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in January, he shared he won\u2019t do it anymore \u201cbecause it does not feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n

He recalled gaining 60 pounds for roles in \u201cTombstone\u201d and \u201cU Turn\u201d in the late 1990s, and then later did a movie called \u201cPushing Tin\u201d for which he \u201cgot down to 128.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny \u2014 if I ever see a picture of those days, because this is back \u2026 when you\u2019re a younger actor, you\u2019re like, \u2018Well, I\u2019m going to gain 75 pounds for this, and the next time I\u2019m going to do this,\u2019 and whatever, \u2018I\u2019ll cut my own cheek,\u2019 you know, that kind of thing,\u201d he said with a laugh. \u201cAfter a while, as you get older,\u00a0you stop doing that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thornton is currently starring in the popular Paramount + show \u201cLandman\u201d <\/a>alongside Ali Larter,\u00a0Demi Moore\u00a0and Sam Elliot.<\/p>\n

The show focuses on roughnecks and billionaires in West Texas who are trying to get rich as the oil industry continues to take over the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the thing that I learned that I wasn\u2019t quite aware of before \u2014 because I knew some about the oil business \u2014 but I knew people more on the sort of suit side of it, you know, in Texas,\u201d he told Fox News Digital in November 2025. \u201cOne of the things that surprised me was how many people who had had broken lives are working in the oil fields.
