TULSA, Okla. \u2014 Tulsa\u2019s Phoenix District could be welcoming more development, making room for businesses and community events.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The district is located along 36th Street North between Martin Luther King Boulevard and North Peoria Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On Monday night, community members were presented with a proposal during the Northside Neighbors Community Meeting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The proposed development would be called \u2018Retail Cottage Village.\u2019 In a community survey, restaurants and businesses said if they had the right place, they would love to be there.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is the district\u2019s way of trying to make that happen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Organizers with the Phoenix District Tulsa spoke about the proposal that would create a new gathering space while also bringing in multiple small businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOn a more frequent basis, what can we do to bring people together? But then, as far as the small business community was concerned, I thought it was really interesting,\u201d said Ed Sharrer, Executive Director of the Phoenix Development Council \u201cWhat they said was, \u2018if there was quality, right sized space in north Tulsa, we\u2019d like to be there.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
They said the concept was developed using community feedback and now they\u2019re asking the community to help decide whether the plan matches what the Northside Neighborhood wants.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe went out of town to look at other towns to see what they were doing with structures and we saw what they had, but I\u2019m hoping that ours will be unique,” said Tracie Chandler, president of the Phoenix Development Council.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chandler said bringing something like this to the area is not just important, it\u2019s a necessity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just as good as anybody else, if not better, and the bottom line is we need to be able to get our needs met in our own community without having to drive across town,\u201d said Chandler. \u201cThat\u2019s not right. \u2026It\u2019s important, especially with gas\u2026prices like they are.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
They said there are people who have already committed to leasing as soon as the development is built.\u00a0<\/p>\n
