Tempelsman, who died last summer at the age of 95, bought the top-floor co-op at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityrealty.com\/nyc\/carnegie-hill\/1155-park-avenue\/8529\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">1155 Park Avenue<\/a> in Carnegie Hill for $3.3 million in 1999, as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/08\/realestate\/maurice-tempelsman-penthouse-sale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">New York Times<\/a> reported. Now asking $5.5 million, the two-bedroom pre-war apartment is surrounded by an enormous, landscaped terrace, providing a serene rooftop garden with views of Manhattan and Central Park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1040\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3.-1155-Park-Ave-PH-LR-W-1040x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238563\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Tempelsman, a Belgian-American diamond magnate, was Jackie O\u2019s partner for more than a decade before she died in 1994, according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>When Tempelsman first toured the Park Avenue penthouse, his son Leon told the Times his father was \u201cstruck by the grand scale of the rooms\u201d and the \u201cenormous wraparound terrace.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was walking through the apartment with the broker trying to put on a game face, then he turned around with his hand cupped over his mouth and said, \u2018I love it,&#8217;\u201d Leon told the newspaper. \u201cIt was love at first sight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1040\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/10.-1155-Park-Ave-PH-STAIRWAY2-W-1040x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238570\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1040\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1.-1155-Park-Ave-PH-DR1-W-1040x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238561\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1040\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2.-1155-Park-Ave-PH-DR2-W-1040x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238562\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The entry foyer is on the 12th floor, with a staircase leading to the dining room. The penthouse measures about 1,800 square feet and has two bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and a staff room. At roughly 3,600 square feet, the wraparound terrace is about twice the size of the apartment itself. <\/p>\n<p>The dining room boasts floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors that lead to the terrace. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/05\/08\/realestate\/maurice-tempelsman-penthouse-sale.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">Times<\/a> reports the rooftop garden includes Japanese maple, weeping cherry, and crab apple trees, dogwoods, wisteria, and English ivy. The wide-open views and greenery make the terrace ideal for both moments of solititude and extravagant events. <\/p>\n<p>Even more unique, the terrace has a wooden skiff from Martha\u2019s Vineyard. \u201cHe loved telling people about the vertical journey involved in hoisting a 13-foot boat up 12 floors to the top of a New York City building,\u201d Leon told the Times about his father. \u201cThis is most likely the first penthouse apartment to come with its very own skiff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1040\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/22.-1155-Park-Ave-PH12-VIEW1-W-1040x693.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238582\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The apartment building at 1155 Park Avenue was designed by Robert T. Lyons and built by Bing &amp; Bing in 1915. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityrealty.com\/nyc\/carnegie-hill\/1155-park-avenue\/8529\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">CityRealty<\/a>, architect Emery Roth later added the setback penthouses in 1915 and 1922.
