{"id":79173,"date":"2025-07-20T23:15:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T23:15:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/79173\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T23:15:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T23:15:14","slug":"perplexity-wants-to-add-its-comet-ai-browser-to-smartphones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/79173\/","title":{"rendered":"Perplexity Wants to Add Its Comet AI Browser to Smartphones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Search engine startup <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.perplexity.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Perplexity AI<\/a> reportedly hopes to add its browser to smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>The artificial intelligence (AI) company is in talks with mobile device makers to have its Comet browser preinstalled on phones, CEO and Co-Founder <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/aravind-srinivas-16051987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Aravind Srinivas<\/a> said in an <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/perplexity-talks-with-phone-makers-pre-install-comet-ai-mobile-browser-devices-2025-07-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">interview<\/a> with Reuters on Friday (July 18).<\/p>\n<p>That report noted that this move could provide a major boost to Perplexity\u2019s reach by capitalizing on browser \u201cstickiness,\u201d a term for user tendency to stay with browser apps that come with or set as default on their devices, and thus leading to habitual use of the company\u2019s AI tools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not easy to convince mobile OEMs to change the default browser to Comet from Chrome,\u201d Srinivas said, in reference to original equipment manufacturers.<\/p>\n<p>The Reuters report cited data from Statcounter showing that \u2014 as of last month \u2013 <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Google<\/a> Chrome commanded a 70% market share on mobile devices, with <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Apple<\/a> and Samsung\u00a0browsers holding another 24%.<\/p>\n<p>Srinivas\u2019 comments to Reuters follow reports from April that the company was in talks with Samsung and Motorola to <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/perplexity-reportedly-planning-ai-partnerships-with-samsung-and-motorola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">integrate its technology<\/a> into smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>Now in beta and available solely in a desktop version, Comet integrates Perplexity\u2019s AI directly into web browsing, letting users ask questions about personal data and things like email and browser history and carry out tasks like scheduling meetings, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Srinivas said his company hopes to target \u201ctens to hundreds of millions\u201d of users during 2026 after stabilizing the desktop version for a few hundred thousand initial testers.<\/p>\n<p>The report pointed out that Perplexity\u2019s efforts are part of a wider shift in the industry towards browsers outfitted with agentic AI capabilities, meaning they need minimal human intervention to make decisions and perform tasks.<\/p>\n<p>Another AI firm, OpenAI, is reportedly also working on its own <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/openai-reportedly-prepping-browser-to-take-on-google-chrome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">agentic AI browser<\/a>, which could automate complex tasks like booking trips or managing finances.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, PYMNTS wrote earlier this month about the impact of <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/search-marketing-loses-ground-as-ai-reshapes-consumer-discovery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AI-powered search<\/a> from the likes of Perplexity and Google on the traditional SEO marketing model as it relates to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). That model, the report said, is losing its effectiveness as AI-driven tools dominate the discovery phase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe traditional SEO game is breaking down,\u201d <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/joy-youell-a3b1279b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Joy Youell<\/a>, owner of <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/winsomemarketing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Winsome Marketing<\/a>, told PYMNTS. \u201cSMBs can\u2019t just rely on ranking for search terms anymore.
