Depending which side of the rental agreement you\u2019re on, your Memorial Day party just got harder to throw or you\u2019re sleeping more soundly going into the holiday weekend.<\/p>\n

Vacation firm Airbnb revealed Tuesday that it\u2019s using \u201canti-party technology\u201d across its platform in the lead-up to Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n

The technology is aimed at reducing house parties and potential damage to rental properties, according to company officials. It flags higher-risk bookings of entire home listings, blocking guests from making the booking or redirecting them to alternative accommodations.<\/p>\n

What the technology flags as a higher-risk booking is unclear, so unfortunately for you party animals, we\u2019re unable to tell you what to watch out for \u2014\u00a0or steer clear of.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t Airbnb\u2019s first party-pooper policy either. In 2020, the company rolled out a global party ban<\/a>, prohibiting open-invite parties and \u201cparty-friendly\u201d listings to reduce community disturbances.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Only 0.09% of the company\u2019s 2025 reservations resulted in allegations that someone had thrown a shindig, according to officials, who added that its party ban and watchdog technology are expected to drive that number even lower.<\/p>\n

Over Memorial Day weekend last year, the company\u2019s anti-party tech killed the hopes of approximately 11,000 revelers nationwide. In Texas, the technology deterred 1,650 people from booking over the same time period. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy to see why the company \u2014\u00a0and the property owners who use its service \u2014\u00a0are eager to put the brakes on the good times. <\/p>\n

In 2018, a party at a San Antonio Airbnb caused nearly $19,000 in damages for the owner, TV station KSAT reports. Meanwhile, an Airbnb party earlier this year in the North Texas town of Celina ended in gunshots and arrests, according to the magazine People<\/a>.<\/p>\n
