{"id":791877,"date":"2026-05-12T20:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T20:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/791877\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T20:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T20:58:16","slug":"bezos-family-gives-100m-gift-to-nyc-for-early-childhood-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/791877\/","title":{"rendered":"Bezos family gives $100M gift to NYC for early childhood education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A philanthropic group named for a mythical benefactor to the poor has launched a new anti-poverty campaign with a $100 million gift to New York City for preschool education.<\/p>\n<p>Robin Hood, the <a href=\"https:\/\/robinhood.org\/about\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">city\u2019s largest and most influential charity,<\/a> announced that it had received the funds from the Bezos Family Foundation, a philanthropy created by the parents of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.<\/p>\n<p>The gift will establish the Jackie Bezos Endowment for Early Childhood at Robin Hood. The endowment includes a pledge of an additional $25 million, subject to a match, for a total of $150 million.<\/p>\n<p>The endowment is named after the mother of the Amazon founder.<\/p>\n<p>Jackie Bezos served on Robin Hood\u2019s board of directors for 10 years, and was chairperson of its Early Childhood Committee, through which she helped shape the organization\u2019s early childhood strategy, organizers said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother saw the innate potential in every child and never stopped working to ensure that potential was met,\u201d Mark Bezos, a Robin Hood board member and Jeff Bezos\u2019 brother, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis gift honors her legacy and makes permanent the work she helped build at Robin Hood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-12\/bezos-family-gives-robin-hood-100-million-to-anchor-endowment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">preschool education gift<\/a> announcement kicked off Robin Hood\u2019s annual benefit Monday night at Manhattan\u2019s Javits Center, at which the organization launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/robinhood.org\/news\/robin-hood-endowment-launch-benefit-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$1 billion endowment campaign<\/a> to help fight poverty in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>The gala featured performances by P!NK, The Lumineers and \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d alumnus Pete Davidson, and raised roughly $73 million that will finance more than half of Robin Hood\u2019s overall annual grantmaking budget, including emergency food, housing, education and job training.<\/p>\n<p>Among the guests was Gov. Hochul.
