{"id":79189,"date":"2025-07-20T23:25:21","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T23:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/79189\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T23:25:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T23:25:21","slug":"mlb-investigating-incident-between-yankees-jazz-chisholm-jr-and-braves-coach-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/79189\/","title":{"rendered":"MLB investigating incident between Yankees\u2019 Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Braves coach: Source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA \u2014 Major League Baseball is investigating Atlanta Braves assistant coach Eddie P\u00e9rez\u2019s actions after he pointed to his head during Saturday night\u2019s game while jawing with New York Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr., a league source told The Athletic.<\/p>\n<p>P\u00e9rez was upset that Chisholm was relaying signs from second base while shortstop Anthony Volpe was hitting in the sixth inning. Volpe hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track after Chisholm tipped off his teammate that a fastball was coming from Braves reliever Rafael Montero. MLB.com reported that P\u00e9rez was telling Chisholm to think about his actions; the Yankees believed the Braves coach may have been threatening Chisholm with getting plunked by a pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted him to be smart, that\u2019s all it was,\u201d P\u00e9rez told The Athletic after the game. \u201cUse his head. I have a lot of respect for that guy, I like him, but I guess he didn\u2019t like what I had to say and got upset with me. It wasn\u2019t threatening. I just wanted him to play smart out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jazz Chisholm Jr. was jawing with Braves coach Eddie Perez<\/p>\n<p>Yankees broadcasters Michael Kay and Joe Girardi believe Perez was threatening to have Jazz hit in the head <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Se7KU4tY5U\">pic.twitter.com\/Se7KU4tY5U<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JomboyMedia\/status\/1946745883208409553?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July 20, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI hope it didn\u2019t (have to do with throwing at his head), because obviously there\u2019s no place for that,\u201d Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday morning at Truist Park. \u201cThat\u2019s certainly something that would not be OK. I hope he didn\u2019t mean anything like that by it, because that would deserve some looking into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time this month the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6487444\/2025\/07\/10\/mariners-yankees-pitch-tipping-discussion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yankees have been caught relaying signs<\/a> from second base. It\u2019s legal to relay signs if it\u2019s done so without the use of electronic communications. The Yankees caught Seattle Mariners closer Andr\u00e9s Mu\u00f1oz tipping his slider in a comeback win earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, every team now, from the start of the year to the end, you\u2019re trying to find little advantages out there,\u201d Boone said. \u201cYou\u2019re trying to find little ways to help you win a ballgame. So that\u2019s all within the parameters of the rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery team we play against is no different, and we\u2019re not, either.
