{"id":791996,"date":"2026-05-12T22:08:14","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T22:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/791996\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T22:08:14","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T22:08:14","slug":"texas-legendary-1877-tall-ship-elissa-joins-sail250-voyage-to-new-york-harbor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/791996\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas\u2019 legendary 1877 tall ship ELISSA joins Sail250 voyage to New York Harbor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>Houston<\/strong> \u2013 A Texas icon is preparing for a once-in-a-generation voyage. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galvestonhistory.org\/sites\/1877-tall-ship-elissa-at-the-galveston-historic-seaport\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.galvestonhistory.org\/sites\/1877-tall-ship-elissa-at-the-galveston-historic-seaport\">The 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA,<\/a> the Official Tall Ship of Texas, will depart Galveston this summer to join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sail250.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sail250.org\/\">Sail 250<\/a> in New York Harbor as part of America\u2019s 250th anniversary celebration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The historic vessel will travel more than 2,500 miles along the East Coast, making stops in Pensacola, Savannah, Yorktown, Portsmouth, New York City, and Boston before returning home to Galveston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Built in Aberdeen, Scotland, in 1877, ELISSA is one of the few authentic 19th-century tall ships still sailing today. Unlike many ships featured at waterfront festivals, ELISSA is not a replica. The vessel spent nearly 90 years carrying cargo around the world before being rescued from a scrapyard in Greece by preservationists from the Galveston Historical Foundation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Today, the National Historic Landmark serves as a living classroom for maritime history, immigration stories, and traditional seamanship.
