One of the cast members, Adam Fields, is returning home to the First Coast to make his national tour debut. Fields is playing Otho.<\/p>\n
“He is very, very different from the movie,” Fields says. “Otho has gone from designer to Delia’s guru, giving her advice and acting as a borderline cult leader for her. She’s quoting him constantly, and his quotes make no sense, and he’s a fraud,” said Fields.<\/p>\n

Fields is a Jacksonville native, born in Atlantic Beach. He had a non-traditional route to acting, playing football in high school and attending college before making the move to Broadway.<\/p>\n
“I’m 6’4, like 260. I was the smallest guy on the team. [Football] didn’t work out; it wasn’t for me,” Fields said.”So I started doing odd jobs, and my cousin was like ‘hey, come sing at church with me,’ and so I started singing there, and then people there were doing theater, and so I got plugged in that way,” said Fields.<\/p>\n
Fields doesn’t just play the role of Otho; he is also an understudy for multiple roles, including the titular character. Fields has to be ready to take on a different part at a moment’s notice. Is he nervous about performing in front of his home crowd?<\/p>\n
“I’ve got like 20 people coming on Sunday. So I’m nervous, but very excited,” said Fields.<\/p>\n
Fields describes Beetlejuice, The Musical, as a PG-13 type of performance.<\/p>\n
“Beetlejuice is gonna talk to you, so you’d be ready for that, be ready to talk back to him. He’s gonna look you in the eye and ask you questions and make fun of you,” said Fields. “Come see the show, it’s an amazing show. It’s like a delightfully strange and unusual time. It’s different than really any other musical that I’ve seen before.”<\/p>\n
