A 9-year-old Canadian tourist was found dead in upstate New York Sunday afternoon \u2014 hours after an apparently bogus kidnapping report from her father, cops said.<\/p>\n

Melina Galanis Frattolin\u2019s body was recovered in Ticonderoga, New York \u2013 roughly 30 miles away from Lake George, where her father originally reported she was last seen.<\/p>\n

Authorities had issued an amber alert citing her \u201cimminent danger\u201d of being harmed or killed earlier Sunday.<\/p>\n

However, there was apparently no real abduction during the entire ordeal, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Melina\u2019s father, Luciano Frattolin, 45, called the Warren County Sheriff\u2019s Office at 9:58 p.m. Saturday evening reporting his daughter\u2019s disappearance, noting a possible abduction, according to police.<\/p>\n

Both Frattolins are residents of Canada, according to the\u00a0New York State Police<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

While the WCSO was leading the investigation, authorities found \u201cinconsistencies in the father\u2019s account of events and the timeline he provided,\u201d according to the NYSP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The investigation was soon turned over to the NYSP \u201cdue to jurisdictional considerations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The NYSP determined that there was no indication of an abduction.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Sunday morning, State Police activated an\u00a0amber alert for Melina<\/a>\u00a0around four hours after she was reported missing along with a description.\u00a0It was later cancelled at 4:18 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious bodily harm and\/or death,\u201d the alert read.<\/p>\n

The circumstances of her abduction were not immediately released and the suspect was listed as \u201cunknown\u201d in the statement from NYSP.<\/p>\n

No suspect or arrest has been announced, but the NYSP said that there is no present \u201cthreat to the public.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
