PHOENIX \u2014 The Salvation Army adding another wing to its Phoenix shelter for families experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n
City officials gathered for a ceremony on Tuesday to dedicate the future site of a third wing for the Salvation Army’s family shelter near 24th and Van Buren streets.<\/p>\n
The expansion will add 12 rooms to the shelter, increasing its total number of beds to 216. The shelter additionally offers social services and assistance in obtaining employment.<\/p>\n

The $8-million project to develop the 9,356-square-foot building is being funded through HOME American Rescue Plan grant money from the City of Phoenix.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, we are seeing a rise in families experiencing homelessness and we want to make sure they have a safe place to stay,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said.<\/p>\n
The Salvation Army said 85% of the residents who entered its family shelter in 2025 later moved into stable housing.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
