\n With the PGA Championship<\/a> taking place just a few miles outside of the City of Brotherly Love<\/a> this week, it\u2019s certainly appropriate that two English siblings find themselves in contention for a major title.\n <\/p>\n

\n Last month, Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick teamed up to share an emotional and historic win at the Zurich Classic before Alex recorded back-to-back top 10 finishes in his first two solo PGA Tour starts. That victory in New Orleans was Matt\u2019s third in four tournaments, while Alex\u2019s followed a breakthrough career triumph in India the previous month.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt\u2019s kind of really hard to describe. If someone had told me you\u2019d win your first DP World Tour event and then a couple of weeks later you\u2019d win on the PGA Tour, I\u2019d have never ever believed you,\u201d Alex Fitzpatrick told CNN Sports<\/a> this week.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cEverything has changed,\u201d the young Englishman added.\n <\/p>\n

\n It\u2019s never easy growing up in the shadow of your older brother, especially when he\u2019s the 2022 US Open winner<\/a>, but Alex Fitzpatrick has done a pretty good job of it.\n <\/p>\n

\n For years, it was Matt\u2019s name grabbing the headlines, but the narrative has now indeed changed and that\u2019s just fine as far as the older Fitzpatrick brother is concerned. Matt says he\u2019s both impressed and \u201csuper proud\u201d of Alex\u2019s recent achievements.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u2019m probably known as Alex\u2019s brother now, as opposed to him being Matt\u2019s brother,\u201d Matt Fitzpatrick told reporters on Monday at Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia while admitting it would be a \u201cweird feeling\u201d if the pair were ever battling it out to win a tournament.\n <\/p>\n

\n The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions for the younger Fitzpatrick who, before that win in Louisiana, was scheduled to immediately travel to Turkey to compete in an event there.\n <\/p>\n

\n That trip never happened though, as winning in the Big Easy paved the way for the 27-year-old from Sheffield to earn his PGA Tour card through 2028, as well as entry into the lucrative $20 million signature events \u2013 not to mention a place in the second men\u2019s major of the year.\n <\/p>\n

\n He goes into the tournament in red-hot form, too, following a tied-for-ninth finish at the Cadillac Championship, then a fourth-place finish this past Sunday in North Carolina, having had a one-shot overnight lead going into the final round.\n <\/p>\n

\n This will be Alex\u2019s second start in a major following an impressive showing in his first at the 2023 Open Championship, where he finished tied for 17th and four shots better off than his older brother.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe majors are the biggest events of the year. That was one of the goals of this year, to try and get into a major and I didn\u2019t know how I was going to do it but they\u2019re the most amazing events. And playing in the Open Championship, in front of a home crowd, was unbelievable, so I was super excited to try and get that opportunity again to play in one of the majors,\u201d Alex said.\n <\/p>\n

\n In a matter of just weeks, Alex\u2019s life has turned on its head. With a trio of top 10 finishes and having won the best part of $3 million in his last three tournaments, Alex Fitzpatrick\u2019s stock is very much on the rise.\n <\/p>\n

\n It\u2019s all a far cry from growing up as Matt\u2019s younger brother.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt\u2019s very strange. I grew up following him around. That was kind of what I did when I was young. I got taken to all the tournaments. I wanted to stay at home and be with my friends, but my parents made me come to some of the tournaments before I started getting into them, so I kind of got dragged around a little bit as a kid, but not in a bad way,\u201d Alex reflected.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cAnd then eventually, when I started playing a bit more golf, you know, it was always, where\u2019s Matt, what\u2019s Matt doing? But I eventually got used to it,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n

\n Things are very different now as the elder Fitzpatrick is all too happy to concede.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cListen, I love talking about my brother. It\u2019s an amazing position to be in to have that privilege to talk about how well he\u2019s doing. I\u2019d so much rather have these questions, conversations, than the opposite of why he is not playing well,\u201d Matt said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cSo, it\u2019s a fantastic position to be in, and I\u2019ve said already, it\u2019s his career. It\u2019s his choice. I\u2019ll be there to help him as much as I can, if he wants that. But at the same time, I want him to be able to make his own decisions,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n

\n The two brothers are more than four years apart, but Alex is well aware of the special fraternal bond they share.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe\u2019s one of those people that doesn\u2019t really give that much away. I know he\u2019s always there if I need to call him or text him, but I think he does a lot for me. I know that for a fact, just from my mum and dad,\u201d Alex Fitzpatrick said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe tries to help me as much as possible without causing any hassle or without bothering me. He just wants me to play golf and enjoy playing golf and be happy doing it, and, you know, behind closed doors, he\u2019s the most caring person you can meet and I\u2019m very lucky, that\u2019s for sure.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

\n Matt \u2013 who says he\u2019ll again share a house with Alex this week in Pennsylvania \u2013 admits there are differences between the two siblings.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe is messy, I would say. We shared a bathroom last week, actually, in the house that we shared, and it was a little bit messier than my side of the bathroom, I\u2019ll say,\u201d he joked.\n <\/p>\n

\n These are exciting times for the Fitzpatrick family. Matt will become a dad for the first time later this year, giving his brother another title: Uncle Alex.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u2019m pretty excited. I might be more excited than him. I\u2019m not going to lie,\u201d Alex said. \u201cHe and his wife Katherine are amazing, and I think they\u2019re both extremely excited. I\u2019m looking forward to spoiling the kid and playing with the kid and when there\u2019s a problem, I\u2019ll hand it back over to Matt. It doesn\u2019t matter which gender. I think it\u2019ll be amazing either way.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe most important thing for us is that all of us are healthy. Our family is close. We all love each other. That is the most important thing for me. It\u2019s nice being able to pick his brain about stuff.
