Asia-Pacific markets were mixed Wednesday, as investors digest a hotter-than-expected\u00a0inflation reading for April<\/a> amid concerns over higher oil prices and the ongoing Middle East conflict. <\/p>\n

President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0on Monday said the month-old ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran was “unbelievably weak” and “on massive life support<\/a>” after rejecting an “unacceptable” counterproposal from Tehran to end the conflict. <\/p>\n

Defense Secretary\u00a0Pete Hegseth<\/a>\u00a0said Trump<\/a>\u00a0doesn’t need<\/a> congressional approval to restart strikes on\u00a0Iran<\/a>. The comment comes after the administration passed the 60-day mark required by federal war powers law to receive authorization for military force.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, investors will also be focusing on developments related to the upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where trade is expected to be discussed. <\/p>\n

Oil futures extended losses. The\u00a0West Texas Intermediate<\/a>\u00a0futures for June was 1.36% lower at $100.79 per barrel as of 3:32 a.m. ET.\u00a0Brent crude<\/a>\u00a0futures for July fell 1.28% at $106.39 per barrel.<\/p>\n

South Korea’s Kospi reversed losses at the start of the session to gain 2.63% at 7,844.01 while the small-cap Kosdaq slipped 0.20% at 1,176.93.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0added 0.84% at 63,272.11, while the Topix rose 1.20% at 3,919.48. Australia’s ASX slipped 0.46% at 8,630.40. <\/p>\n

China’s CSI 300 gained 1.02%, while Hong Kong’s\u00a0Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0was unchanged in the last hour of afternoon trade.<\/p>\n

India’s Nifty 50<\/a> added 0.56%.<\/p>\n
