Now 23 weeks pregnant, the San Diego-based makeup artist credits the diet with boosting her fertility and plans to introduce her baby to the same eating approach.<\/p>\n<p>NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Carnivores from far and wide descended recently on Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to partake in Meatstock, a convention for followers of meat-based diets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The weekend gathering featured presentations from experts, panel discussions and vendors centered on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/8-carnivore-diet-myths-debunked-researcher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">carnivore and keto diets<\/a> \u2014 as well as biohacking.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the convention, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6369092135112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Texas biochemist and author Nathan Bryan<\/a>, who presented at Meatstock, told Fox News Digital, &#8220;Americans are the sickest people on the planet.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/rfk-jr-backs-beef-declaring-war-protein-over-he-thanks-americas-cattle-ranchers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>RFK JR. BACKS BEEF, DECLARING &#8216;WAR ON PROTEIN IS OVER&#8217; AS HE THANKS AMERICA&#8217;S CATTLE RANCHERS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nine out of 10 Americans are metabolically unfit, two out of three Americans have an unsafe elevation of blood pressure and nearly half of the people in America are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/diabetes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">diabetic or\u00a0pre-diabetic,&#8221;<\/a> he added. &#8220;That can be attributed to the foods we eat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bryan said he was extremely compelled by stories from Meatstock attendees, who talked about how much weight they lost and autoimmune diseases they cured by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/carnivore-diet-save-life-after-decades-anorexia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">switching to a meat-based diet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/man_cutting_cooked_steak.jpeg\" alt=\"A man cuts a cooked steak with a knife and fork.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>The Meatstock convention drew a crowd of people who prescribe to a meat-based diet. Tara Schmidt, a registered dietitian and instructor of nutrition at Mayo Clinic, <a href=\"https:\/\/mcpress.mayoclinic.org\/nutrition-fitness\/a-meat-only-diet-is-not-the-answer-examining-the-carnivore-and-lion-diets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">cautioned that carnivore-type diets<\/a> put people at risk of missing out on essential nutrients like fiber, calcium and Vitamin D.<\/p>\n<p>They also lack balance and are too restrictive to be sustainable long-term for many people, Schmidt said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\">\n<p class=\"quote-text\">&#8220;I put a lot of emphasis on the science and clinical data behind [these diets], and it was impressive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The science presented at the Meatstock convention was intriguing, Bryan said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I come from academia as a former professor of medicine,&#8221; Bryan said. &#8220;So I put a lot of emphasis on the science and clinical data behind [these diets], and it was impressive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/lifestyle\/quizzes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>TEST YOURSELF WITH OUR LATEST LIFESTYLE QUIZ<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) unveiled a new food pyramid and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/healthiest-red-meats-eat-how-cardiologist-says-prepare-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Dietary Guidelines for Americans<\/a> earlier this year. The updated guidance reflects a broader shift in federal nutrition messaging, while also prompting debate among health experts.<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines encourage people to eat &#8220;a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/healthiest-red-meats-eat-how-cardiologist-says-prepare-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">protein foods from animal sources<\/a>,&#8221; including red meat, and are a radical departure from previous recommendations that emphasized carbohydrates.<\/p>\n<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/woman_shopping_for_meat_at_grocery_store.jpeg\" alt=\"A woman selects a package of meat from a grocery store cooler.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently changed dietary guidelines, advising people to incorporate more meat into their meals. In an article on the release of the new guidelines, for instance, UC Berkeley Public Health reported, &#8220;When the federal government issued its recommendations for a healthy diet last week, many nutritionists and health care providers were appalled.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is widely believed that misinformation about nutrition dates back to Ancel Keys, a physiologist whose &#8220;Seven Countries Study&#8221; is responsible for many accepted modern ideas about cholesterol and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/heart-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">heart disease<\/a>, Bryan said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/newsletters?cmpid=fnfirstnl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, many nutrition researchers continue to cite Keys&#8217; work as foundational, even as aspects of it have been debated over time.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\">\n<p class=\"quote-text\">&#8220;At every meal, I eat meat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Special-interest groups, such as vegan societies, have used Keys&#8217; research to &#8220;demonize&#8221; meat and perpetrate widespread misconceptions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/nutrition-and-fitness\/nutrition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">about nutrition<\/a>, Bryan said.<\/p>\n<p>During an address to the National Cattlemen&#8217;s Beef Association in February, HHS Secretary\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/robert-f-kennedy-jr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Robert F. (iStock)<\/p>\n<p>Bryan himself is not a strict carnivore, but each one of his meals includes some form of protein \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/eating-meat-could-protect-against-cancer-related-death-study-suggests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">mainly red meat<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also fasts for 18 hours every day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have a ranch in Texas and I grow my own beef, so I know <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/food-drink\/food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the food<\/a> that I&#8217;m getting is free of antibiotics and growth hormones and all that,&#8221; Bryan said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.onelink.me\/xLDS?pid=AppArticleLink&amp;af_dp=foxnewsaf%3A%2F%2F&amp;af_web_dp=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.foxnews.com%2Fapps-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I usually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/food-pyramid-faces-scrutiny-ben-carson-reveals-why-americans-dont-have-eat-meat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">eat meat<\/a> with some kind of low-glycemic-index starch, whether it&#8217;s a baked potato, a sweet potato or maybe rice,&#8221; he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have my own garden, so I eat green beans and corn. I usually eat a salad, usually before a meal.
