to skyrocket across the five boroughs, New York City often feels like the most unaffordable city in the country to live.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QLL3COY3JBC33AZRHSO2ISVVFE\">However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/stacker.com\/stories\/real-estate\/where-rent-increased-most\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/stacker.com\/stories\/real-estate\/where-rent-increased-most\">new report<\/a> from Smart Asset found that residents of another major Northeast city have it even worse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SMTP75UWL5C3XACEYFOTOLJRCA\">The report, which analyzed rental data from Zillow\u2019s Zillow Observed Rent Index, found that Boston has the highest average rent for all homes at $3,495, as of Feb. 28, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"V64EONNCJBDBVLGCDTLMFFMEJY\">That number represents an increase of roughly 4.1% from the city\u2019s average rent in 2024 of $3,359, and a 24.4% from its average rent in 2020 of $2,811.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VM2E3UHHCND65F7PRFDYESSJUU\">New York City was a close second with a February 2025 average rent of $3,489, just six dollars cheaper than in Boston.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OOJGC7R2VRET7HZ7RZGHPUKLWE\">The Big Apple has seen its average rent increase roughly 4.1% from $3,350 in 2024, and 22.9% from $2,839 in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RQVDJJKKEBB6TIT4ZGEPJ2OHPI\">Rounding out the top five are three California cities; San Francisco, Irvine and San Jose, with average rent also seen its rent prices spike in recent years, with some neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by the increases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VXPPKGJWCBBRDM72BTTEQUPYGE\">The Staten Island Advance\/SILive.com recently analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau\u2019s 2023 American Community Survey 5-year estimates to determine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/data\/2025\/03\/heres-a-list-of-staten-island-neighborhoods-with-the-highest-rent-prices.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/data\/2025\/03\/heres-a-list-of-staten-island-neighborhoods-with-the-highest-rent-prices.html\">which neighborhoods have the most expensive rent prices.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FV52433O3VG3LE32VT6XXXAV5I\">The 10312 ZIP code, which covers Annadale, Arden Heights, Eltingville, Greenridge and Huguenot, had the highest median rent price at $1,911.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3LJXETXTABG57O23HEVSJOINBY\">Following closely behind was the 10309 ZIP code, covering Pleasant Plains, Richmond Valley, Prince\u2019s Bay, Charleston, Rossville and Woodrow, where the median rent price was $1,907.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2ULVHRNO2RHAFLD6JTCCLBRXDM\">In what may come as a surprise to some, the third-highest median rent price was in the 10302 ZIP code, which covers Port Richmond and Elm Park, where the median renter paid $1,800.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SON5EW3D7FESHDPQDAWOABANOQ\">The high rent prices come as little surprise, as an Advance\/SILive.com data analysis from last year found that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/data\/2024\/12\/rent-prices-spiked-nearly-60-in-these-staten-island-neighborhoods-over-past-decade-data-shows.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/data\/2024\/12\/rent-prices-spiked-nearly-60-in-these-staten-island-neighborhoods-over-past-decade-data-shows.html\">the median rent across Staten Island spiked 38% over the past decade.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SJYD4BSRZZDF3IAF2F2EJTA67M\">Here\u2019s a look at the median rent prices in each Staten Island ZIP code, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZBTOXSMEJNAD5ONCV24WKR7IDE\"><b>10301 (St. George,
