The\u00a0Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts will present an invite-only staged reading of\u00a0Jamie Wax<\/a>‘s\u00a0High Risk Ward\u00a0June 10 and 11.\u00a0<\/strong>Livy Scanlon will\u00a0direct\u00a0the\u00a0Call Me Izzy<\/a> playwright’s newest work.<\/p>\n

Two-time Tony Award nominee Johanna Day<\/a> (Sweat) will star in the play, which follows\u00a0three expectant mothers in 1963\u00a0whose pregnancies are deemed \u201chigh risk,\u201d and two overworked nurses in the maternity wing of a newly integrated Louisiana hospital. As the nation reels from John F. Kennedy\u2019s assassination and the hospital\u2019s orderlies unionize and strike, these five different women are thrown into an intimate pressure cooker.<\/p>\n

LDK Productions<\/a> will serve as general manager for the readings.<\/p>\n

High Risk Ward\u00a0has initially premiered with two\u00a0readings\u00a0at Hanover Theatre Repertory (THT Rep) this past March, the culmination of\u00a0Wax serving as the inaugural Playwright-in-Residence at the company.<\/p>\n

Wax recently made his Broadway debut as a playwright with\u00a0Call Me Izzy, which ran at Studio 54 last summer.
