The Eastern State Penitentiary’s May 2026 events bring together thought-provoking discussions, hands-on preservation activities, and immersive tours that highlight the lasting impact of incarceration on society today.<\/p>\n

At the core of the month\u2019s programming is the popular Justice 101 series, which tackles complex topics through meaningful public conversations. One standout event, Philly Saves: Adaptive Reuse of Sites of Memory and Trauma on May 21, explores how historically significant places\u2014from prisons to churches\u2014can be transformed into spaces for healing, dialogue, and community life. Another key discussion, Faith, Reentry, and Prison Reform on May 27, examines how faith communities contribute to rehabilitation and reintegration, offering a thoughtful look at justice 250 years after the nation\u2019s founding.<\/p>\n

Additional Justice 101 programs include a virtual session on May 13 that dives into the origins of solitary confinement, as well as the May 20 discussion Dying on the Inside, which focuses on the realities of aging and long-term incarceration for women. Beyond discussions, visitors can experience Eastern State in new ways during the Memorial Day Weekend Preservation Fest on May 23\u201324.
