I don\u2019t think he got out of bed for about two days after it.<\/p>\n
But that was Darragh. He just loved that physical challenge.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
That love of challenges and competing now forms the heart of DMax 7.7, a new fitness event taking place at the Marina Market in Cork this Saturday, which sold out this week with 300 participants taking part.<\/p>\n
Darragh McCarthy to be remembered at DMax7.7<\/p>\n
Organised by Darragh\u2019s family and friends following the MTU Cork student’s tragic death in March 2025 at the age of 21, the event has been designed not simply as a fitness event, but as a reflection of who Darragh McCarthy was.<\/p>\n
Built around a symbolic format, DMax 7.7 features seven stations lasting seven minutes each, with two-minute transitions between stations. Competitors enter in doubles teams and will tackle challenges including skipping, ski-erg, med ball, assault bike, rowing, burpee box jumps and wall balls.<\/p>\n
The event\u2019s structure is deeply personal.<\/p>\n
The \u201c7.7\u201d references Darragh\u2019s birthday, July 7, while the overall event time of one hour and one minute honours the time Darragh and his cousin S\u00e9an completed their first Hyrox event together.<\/p>\n
For Niall, ensuring the challenge genuinely reflected his son was hugely important.<\/p>\n
\nWe brainstormed and came up with seven elements of functional fitness that Darragh enjoyed.<\/p>\n
But we also wanted it to be inclusive and bring everybody in.<\/p>\n
Darragh had uncles who weren\u2019t really into fitness and he\u2019d still drag them out and say \u2018come on, we\u2019ll do a workout\u2019.<\/p>\n
He\u2019d programme it so they could complete it and wouldn\u2019t be turned off fitness.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
That spirit sits at the centre of DMax 7.7.<\/p>\n
