Environmental groups<\/a> are now rich.<\/p>\n

In 2020 (the most recent data available), they collected $8 billion in donations.<\/p>\n

$8 billion!<\/p>\n

\u201cThe environmental industrial complex<\/a> actually has more money in the PR game, the lobbying game, than the real industry,\u201d says physicist Mark Mills in my\u00a0new video<\/a>. \u201cInsufficient attention is paid to following the money.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s right.<\/p>\n

Go to their websites.<\/p>\n

\u201cDONATE\u201d appears first. Sometimes it explodes onto your screen.<\/p>\n

You\u2019d think they were poor and desperate.<\/p>\n

But they\u2019re rich.<\/a><\/p>\n

They get richer by peddling deceit.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolar bears<\/a> face extinction and bees are dying off!\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not true.<\/p>\n

Polar bear and bee populations are increasing.<\/p>\n

\u2018These scares drive donations,\u201d says science writer Jon Entine. \u201cThey feel that the only way they can talk about environmental issues<\/a> is to frame it with hysteria, crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut they\u2019re not trying to trick people,\u201d I push back. \u201cThey believe it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes they believe it,\u201d he says, \u201cbut they also recognize that hysteria generates donations. The oxygen for these organizations is money donated by people who think they\u2019re doing good.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, you give them billions.<\/p>\n

You think your money goes to \u201cdoing good,\u201d like cleaning up rivers or parks? Most of Big E spends very little on that.<\/p>\n

Your donations to the World Wildlife Fund pay for its 250,000-square-foot headquarters with its \u201cstunning eight-story, sky-lit atrium.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Natural Resources Defense Council holds galas with fashion brands and celebrities. They get Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert Redford to make commercials for them.<\/p>\n

But what bothers me most is the damage they do.<\/p>\n

The Natural Resources Defense Council and Sierra Club spend your donations on lawyers. The Natural Resources Defense Council filed a new lawsuit every 10 days.<\/p>\n

The Center for Biological Diversity has more than\u00a070 active lawsuits<\/a>, while their executive director brags, \u201cWe do more environmental litigation than any other environmental group in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have billions of dollars to not build a thing, but just to oppose building things,\u201d complains Mills.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a rich sense of irony there,\u201d says the director of energy and environmental policy studies at the Cato Institute, Travis Fisher.<\/p>\n

\u201cIrony because while they say they\u2019ll save the bees, ultimately, that donation goes to a lawyer suing someone, preventing you from using gasoline.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sierra Club brags: \u201cOur legal team has stopped thousands of miles of fossil fuel pipelines and dozens of large power plants.\u201d<\/p>\n

But pipelines are better for the earth than shipping oil by truck.<\/p>\n

America\u00a0needs\u00a0power plants to power our future, including nuclear plants. But last year, Friends of the Earth sued to shut down Diablo Canyon, California\u2019s last nuclear plant.<\/p>\n

The Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club and Defenders of Wildlife even sue to stop solar and wind farms. They claim, for example, that California\u2019s Calico solar project would destroy the habitat of desert tortoises.<\/p>\n

Once upon a time, the big threat to development was NIMBY: Not In My Back Yard.<\/p>\n

Today, it\u2019s BANANA: Build Absolutely Nothing, Anywhere, Near Anyone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat that means is we don\u2019t get the lifestyle that we want,\u201d says Fisher. \u201cIf you wanted to build a new house, what kind of permits do you have to get? Who do you have to talk to? Is the Sierra Club going to sue?\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019m ashamed that I once fell for their scams. WCBS TV even ran ads promoting my environmental reporting with a headline that said, \u201cIf you wore a gas mask \u2026 you might be better off.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now I realize that the big environmental groups fed me lies.<\/p>\n

Today they mostly stop progress and make lawyers richer.<\/p>\n

I invited the big groups to bring a spokesman to my studio and tell me why I\u2019m wrong. None would agree.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a shame,\u201d says Fisher, \u201cWhen I think about what America could be, what we could be building, we could be so prosperous, so much more prosperous than we are.\u201d<\/p>\n
