I\u2019m sorry and today I am seeking help for my drinking problem,\u201d William Paul posted on social media under the handle TastyBrew1776.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The apology was posted minutes after Mike Lawler, a Republican congressman, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BenjaminSWeiss\/status\/2054653519731278114\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow\">told reporters<\/a> the senator\u2019s son had drunkenly accosted him on Tuesday night at a bar and said he would hold \u201canti-American\u201d Jews responsible if his father\u2019s ally, Thomas Massie, a Kentucky congressman, loses a primary election next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The younger Paul, who recently served as a congressional aide to two of Lawler\u2019s Republican colleagues in the House, went on \u201ca 10-minute diatribe about Jews\u201d at the Tune Inn Restaurant &amp; Bar on Pennsylvania Avenue, Lawler said, and \u201csaid that he hates Jews and hates gays and doesn\u2019t care if they die\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI think that\u2019s fucking disgusting,\u201d Lawler said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Details of the incident were first reported earlier on Wednesday by a witness, Reese Gorman of the digital publication Notus, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.notus.org\/congress\/william-paul-mike-lawler-confrontation-antisemitism\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a remarkable first-hand account<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Lawler <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jchristenson_\/status\/2054661005259722790\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow\">told the New York Post<\/a> that Paul also blamed Israel for the US war on Iran, and said the US was \u201ctrying to steal Iran\u2019s land for the Jews and steal the West Bank\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Rand Paul\u2019s senate office did not immediately return the Guardian\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Massie is engaged in an increasingly bitter and nasty primary campaign against Ed Gallrein, a former navy Seal who is endorsed by Donald Trump and backed by Republican billionaire donor Paul Singer, who is Jewish and supports gay rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Massie, a critic of the US-Israel war on Iran, enraged the president by leading the effort to force the release of files on Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender Trump socialized with for nearly two decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/05\/11\/thomas-massie-ed-gallrein-kentucky-aipac-trump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Axios has reported<\/a>, an outside group supporting Massie\u2019s campaign focused on Singer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3Vn9aYmmcDY\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a recent ad attacking Gallrein<\/a>. \u201cEddie Gallrein is bought and paid for by the LGBTQ mafia,\u201d the ad begins. \u201cFar-left trans activist billionaire Paul Singer is bringing his trans madness to Kentucky. Singer is spending millions to remove Massie. The gay mafia will own woke Eddie.\u201d The ad features an image of Singer in front of a rainbow-colored Star of David.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">William Paul, who has been charged multiple times for drunken assault or driving in the past, reportedly told Lawler: \u201cPaul Singer serves Israeli interests, not American interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">After Lawler pointed out that he was not Jewish, Paul, who confessed that he was drunk, allegedly said: \u201cOh wow, I\u2019m so sorry for calling you a Jew,\u201d before launching into the tirade. He then urged Lawler \u201cto watch more Tucker Carlson\u201d, before reportedly flipping off the congressman and tripping over his bar stool as he left.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">William Paul\u2019s LinkedIn profile indicates he spent part of last week in San Diego, attending a conference with the Christian Employers Alliance.
