It’s so exciting when a bird chooses to build her nest around your yard or patio. You get to watch her tend to the eggs and then care for her new babies. If you’re lucky, the bird will come back year after year to build her nest because she knows your home is a safe place!<\/p>\n

Instagrammer Chambers Stevens has a hummingbird feeder hanging on their patio, and like many of us, the family enjoys watching the tiny, busy birds come and go; they’re such a joy to see. But recently, they spotted something unusual at the top of the feeder: a mama bird had decided it was the perfect place to build her nest!<\/p>\n

Is it weird that we’re jealous of Chambers<\/a>?! And can we also point out that’s one smart mama bird! Talk about a convenient place to put your nest! As @amyinutahspups pointed out, “It’s like having a little apartment above a bakery or coffee shop!” @meeversdesu agreed, “She said bed AND breakfast!” @Vivianavigil added, “Location, location, location!”<\/p>\n

There Was One Question Many Commenters Asked About the Hummingbird’s Nest<\/p>\n

Everyone, including us, had one concern about where the mama hummingbird built her nest. @squirlleydoo2_too pointed out, “Oooooo. I hope they don\u2019t get disturbed too much. Precious hummingbirds!”@deborahldera added, “Wow, you have to be very careful changing the food!”<\/p>\n

@allisongoetzke44 wondered, “Wait, how do you change the sugar water then?! Chambers said simply, “Carefully.” @kava63 was thinking the same thing and said, “Aw. But now you can’t refill it,” to which Chambers replied, “There is another one 5 feet away.”<\/p>\n

If you feed hummingbirds in your yard, it’s simple to make your own sugar water<\/a> for them to drink. Hummingbird 101<\/a>\u00a0and many other sites say that sugar water is fine to give to hummingbirds, but you have to use the right amount. \u201cWith the right ratio of sugar to water, you can create nectar that closely matches the natural diet of hummingbirds. This helps provide them with the energy they need while avoiding excess sugars.\u201d<\/p>\n

They recommend using a ratio of 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. This creates a 20% sugar solution. Before adding the sugar to the water, boil it first. Don’t forget to allow it to cool before filling feeders!<\/p>\n

Hummingbird 101 notes that it’s also important to discard and replace nectar every 2-3 days, or when it looks cloudy.<\/p>\n
