{"id":795940,"date":"2026-05-14T13:56:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T13:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/795940\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T13:56:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T13:56:17","slug":"cognac-theft-update-woman-cleared-of-involvement-in-tempe-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/795940\/","title":{"rendered":"Cognac theft update: Woman cleared of involvement in Tempe crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the two people arrested for allegedly stealing a bottle of cognac valued at $4,000 from a Tempe restaurant was not involved in the incident, authorities said Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Channel Miller, 34, and her husband, 32-year-old Matthew Steve, turned themselves in for the theft from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threethirtythreerestaurants.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Three Thirty Three<\/a> on Tuesday, according to the Tempe Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Matthew-Steve-cognac.jpg\" data-sub-html=\"Matthew Steve (MCSO photo)\" aria-label=\"Matthew Steve \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Matthew-Steve-cognac-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"Matthew Steve \"  \/>\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, investigators later found evidence that cleared Miller of involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Steve was booked on a felony theft charge, and both he and Miller were released from custody.<\/p>\n<p>What happened $4,000 bottle of cognac stolen from Tempe restaurant?<\/p>\n<p>The 750-milliliter bottle of Louis XIII cognac was stolen just after 9 p.m. on May 4 by a couple who just dined at the restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/wR4WKpuxbhQcTTGX8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">on Scottsdale Road just north of Tempe Town Lake<\/a>, police said. A woman allegedly stole the bottle while a man acted as a lookout.<\/p>\n<p>Three days later, two unidentified individuals returned the bottle to the restaurant before running off.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED STORIES<\/p>\n<p>Three Thirty Three can\u2019t sell the cognac because it left the restaurant and there is no way to tell if it was tampered with, resulting in a $4,000 loss, police said.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/8e7bf98a-41f5-49a1-851b-cb441d42bcc8.filesusr.com\/ugd\/37ef22_a9f91f3ce786443faf4bf244fe22c276.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">restaurant advertises<\/a> 1 ounce servings of Louis XIII for $310.<\/p>\n<p>The theft was captured on the restaurant\u2019s surveillance cameras, which also recorded images of the SUV the couple used to leave the area, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the incident may have been associated with a criminal group known to target businesses in theft- and fraud-related crimes across the country.<\/p>\n<p>KTAR News 92.3 FM\u2019s Kevin Stone contributed to this report.<\/p>\n<p>This is an updated version of a story originally published May 12, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">Have a story idea or tip?
