SAN ANTONIO \u2014 A bullet-riddled vehicle found outside a West Side taco restaurant is now believed to be tied to an earlier shootout during an attempted vehicle theft.<\/p>\n
Officers were called just before 6 a.m. Thursday after someone reported a damaged vehicle outside Tia’s Taco Hut near Military Drive West and State Highway 151.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the initial incident likely began around 4 to 5 a.m. at a nearby location off State Highway 151, where an attempted vehicle theft reportedly escalated into a shootout between two groups. <\/p>\n
Police said two vehicles were involved. Investigators believe a suspect fired shots at one vehicle, and occupants of that vehicle returned fire. Officers later discovered shell casings in the area, but said it is still unclear whether the gunfire occurred at the taco restaurant parking lot or at the original scene.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the vehicle found outside the restaurant had multiple bullet holes in the windows and doors and may also have visible blood evidence inside. Investigators are canvassing the area for additional shell casings and other evidence to determine how far the incident spread.<\/p>\n
Police also requested a police helicopter to assist in searching the surrounding area to ensure no injured individuals were left behind. As of Thursday morning, no calls for medical assistance had been received from area hospitals.<\/p>\n
