Uzcategui-Labrador family to return to San Antonio after release from Dilley ICE facility<\/a><\/p>\nIn a post shared Thursday on X, Castro announced that Victor, Monserrat, and their stepmother Maria were \u201con their way home\u201d after weeks in federal custody.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you to the entire San Antonio community for speaking out and demanding their release from the Dilley trailer prison,\u201d Castro wrote. \u201cWe will not stop until all children are free.\u201d<\/p>\n
The family\u2019s detention drew widespread attention after ICE agents detained the children and their stepmother while they were waiting at a school bus stop in late April. According to attorneys and family advocates, the children, fifth grader Victor Jr. and second grader Monserrat, were taken alongside their stepmother, Betania Maria Uzcategui-Castillo, while their father watched nearby.<\/p>\n

The family, originally from Venezuela, entered the United States in 2021 and has been pursuing asylum claims while living in San Antonio.
