{"id":796224,"date":"2026-05-14T16:43:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T16:43:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/796224\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T16:43:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T16:43:20","slug":"deputy-fm-greece-israel-relations-flourishing-large-scale-projects-advancing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/796224\/","title":{"rendered":"Deputy FM: Greece-Israel relations &#8216;flourishing,&#8217; large-scale projects advancing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greece-Israel relations are \u201cflourishing,\u201d Israel\u2019s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sharren Haskel told The Jerusalem Post, following a three-day diplomatic and economic mission to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/consumerism\/article-894224\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Athens<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the visit was to deepen the strategic partnership and alliance between Israel and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/archaeology\/article-894646\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Greece<\/a>, focusing primarily on infrastructure projects, energy, regional connectivity, and security.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">During the mission, the deputy minister served as a keynote speaker at the Maritime Med conference and the East Med Energy Transition Summit.<\/p>\n<p>She also held a series of high-level meetings with senior Greek officials, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Papadopoulou, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/politics-and-diplomacy\/article-890606\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deputy Minister<\/a> of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy Harry Theoharis, and Alternate Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis.<\/p>\n<p>Haskel presented Israel\u2019s commitment to advancing large-scale regional infrastructure projects, most notably the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI). This strategic initiative involves a subsea electricity cable connecting the grids of Israel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-895804\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cyprus<\/a>, and Greece to mainland Europe. (credit: Courtesy Israel FM)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cRecent months have proven beyond a doubt that we cannot rely on trade routes or energy sectors that are vulnerable to radical and irresponsible actors,\u201d said Haskel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cDependency on hostile coalitions is a tangible danger to the entire free world. The GSI project and our tight strategic alliance with Greece and Cyprus are game-changers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Israel will be &#8216;critical&#8217; to Europe&#8217;s energy security<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">She explained that Israel is becoming a reliable and central energy hub that will \u201cnot only ensure regional prosperity,\u201d but also \u201cserve as a critical pillar of Europe\u2019s energy security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The deputy minister also held a special meeting with the leadership of the Jewish community in Athens.<\/p>\n<p>Haskel told the Post that the leaders expressed much concern over the rise of antisemitism in Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">However, she said that the Greek government has implemented many programs to tackle antisemitism, so the situation in Greece has \u201cnot been as bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">\u201cThe Jewish community is absolutely incredible. They\u2019re so active and participatory in not just creating this community, which is tiny, but they\u2019re combating challenges to make sure that what\u2019s happening in Europe will not happen in Greece.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Haskel also presented Papadopoulou with the \u201cSilenced No More\u201d report.
