[Photo: travelview\/iStockphoto]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fort Worth has been one of America\u2019s fastest-growing cities for years, and now all that growth has led to a big new claim: Fort Worth is now America\u2019s 10th-largest city.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Call it Cowtown, call it the Panther City, call it what you will\u2014but it\u2019s now officially one of America\u2019s Big Top 10, according\u00a0to the <a title=\"https:\/\/links-2.govdelivery.com\/CL0\/https:%2F%2Fwww.census.gov%2Fnewsroom%2Fpress-releases%2F2026%2Fvintage-2025-city-town-pop-estimates.html\/1\/0101019e2808482d-ba55df8d-7982-4134-9d1c-00b6e0fb110f-000000\/O5YHASzMdDzcEBhqx5FY9LE0e1343RBa2aY2YmwsPJs=452\" href=\"https:\/\/links-2.govdelivery.com\/CL0\/https:%2F%2Fwww.census.gov%2Fnewsroom%2Fpress-releases%2F2026%2Fvintage-2025-city-town-pop-estimates.html\/1\/0101019e2808482d-ba55df8d-7982-4134-9d1c-00b6e0fb110f-000000\/O5YHASzMdDzcEBhqx5FY9LE0e1343RBa2aY2YmwsPJs=452\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">U.S. Census Bureau<\/a>\u2019s latest data. To earn that status, it surpassed the population of previously 10th-ranked Jacksonville, Florida, by more than 10,000 people, the city noted.<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth remains the fourth-largest city in Texas after Houston, San Antonio and Dallas. (Fort Worth would have to quickly move in around 300,001 people to eclipse Dallas for the No. 9 spot.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFort Worth is booming for the right reasons,\u201d Mayor Mattie Parker said in a statement. \u201cAs we celebrate our top 10 ranking, it\u2019s more important than ever that we continue to lead with smart policies, smart investments and smart planning to ensure the city we love thrives long into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data points mark Fort Worth\u2019s rise<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s new census data to back up both Fort Worth\u2019s No. 10 position and the growth of other cities in across Dallas-Fort Worth.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fort Worth had the second-largest numeric population increase between July 1, 2024, and July 1, 2025, gaining 19,512 new residents. (Charlotte, North Carolina, had the biggest population boost.)<\/li>\n<li>Fort Worth\u2019s fast growth is an anomaly among the nation\u2019s largest cities. \u201cBig-city growth slowed significantly between 2024 and 2025, with some major hubs even seeing small declines,\u201d Matt Erickson, a statistician in the Census Bureau\u2019s Population Division, said in a statement. Growth slowdowns in the nation\u2019s largest cities were most pronounced in the Northeast, the Census Bureau said.<\/li>\n<li>The top five fastest-growing cities in the U.S. with populations of 20,000 or more were all in Texas, with four of them located in the suburbs of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro and the fifth located outside Houston. Celina, north of Dallas, was the fastest-growing city in all of the U.S., boosting its population by 24.6%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth City Manager Jay Chapa said \u201csubstantial growth like we\u2019re seeing in Fort Worth doesn\u2019t just happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City of Fort Worth is extremely fortunate because over several decades we\u2019ve been led by public servants who prioritize fiscal discipline, continuous improvement of our city services, and a focus on delivering a high quality of life for our residents,\u201d Chapa added in a statement. \u201cBeing among the top 10 largest cities is an important reminder to all of us that our work matters, and we have a responsibility to continue stewarding this phenomenal growth into the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Census Bureau, here are the 15 most populous cities in America as of 2025:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>New York City (8.5 million)<\/li>\n<li>Los Angeles (3.8 million)<\/li>\n<li>Chicago (2.7 million)<\/li>\n<li>Houston (2.3 million)<\/li>\n<li>Phoenix (1.6 million)<\/li>\n<li>Philadelphia (1.5 million)<\/li>\n<li>San Antonio (1.5 million)<\/li>\n<li>San Diego (1.4 million)<\/li>\n<li>Dallas (1.3 million)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fort Worth (1 million)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Jacksonville (1 million)<\/li>\n<li>Austin (1 million)<\/li>\n<li>San Jose (989,000)<\/li>\n<li>Charlotte (964,000)<\/li>\n<li>Columbus (935,000)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss what\u2019s next.
