(AP) \u2014 In their next general manager, the Philadelphia 76ers are looking for someone who will take a collaborative approach and help them win a championship.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The 76ers fired Daryl Morey on Tuesday after six seasons in which he made the playoffs five times but never got past the second round. This season, Philadelphia was swept by the New York Knicks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a blue-blood organization,\u201d Bob Myers, who is overseeing the GM search, said Thursday at a news conference. \u201cWe\u2019re committed to winning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Myers, who helped guide the Golden State Warriors to four championships as general manager, joined the 76ers organization in October. He said he expects the next Philadelphia GM to work with others to come to the best decisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need good people that are in harmony,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Morey had a winning record but got stuck in the second round, going 270-212 in the regular season and 28-26 in the playoffs. The former Philadelphia general manager received criticism for trading away Jared McCain, who has prospered in Oklahoma City since the February move.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Managing partner Josh Harris said the organization gave the green light for the move, which yielded the 76ers draft picks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was part of a bigger plan,\u201d Harris said. \u201cWe don\u2019t know the outcome of the trade right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris expressed his disappointment to fans with how the 76ers finished this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one is more frustrated than me that we have not achieved our goals,\u201d he said. \u201cWe owe it to you and the city to be better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>In Myers, Harris believes they have an executive who will be able to identify the ideal candidate to succeed Morey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s universally respected across the sports industry,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n<p>Myers said he hopes to hire a GM before the NBA draft, which begins June 23, but said he would not rush the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a big believer in character and leadership,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m looking for a person who embodies those things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Whoever he hires will need to be focused on winning a title, which he admitted is not easy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes a great level of uncomfortability to win a championship,\u201d Myers said. \u201cNobody plays this game to make the playoffs. I also want to say how hard it actually is. There is no wave of wand. This requires a ton of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the interview process, Myers will gauge candidates\u2019 opinion of Philadelphia\u2019s roster and whether they can win as currently constructed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to look at what happened this year and be honest about it,\u201d Myers said. \u201cCan this model work?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>The 76ers are built around high-priced veterans Joel Embiid and Paul George, as well as promising young players Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Embiid\u2019s availability, due to a variety of injuries, has been a consistent issue for the 76ers. George was suspended for 25 games this season for violating the league\u2019s drug program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truth is depth may be more important than it\u2019s ever been,\u201d Myers said.<\/p>\n<p>While Philadelphia will be searching for a new general manager, Harris reiterated the organization\u2019s commitment to head coach Nick Nurse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team played hard for Nick,\u201d Harris said. \u201cHe\u2019s earned the right to be here. He\u2019s our coach moving forward into next season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Harris also addressed the club\u2019s willingness to exceed the league\u2019s luxury tax, something that was questioned following the McCain trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe front office absolutely has the green light to go into the luxury tax,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not an issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also expressed his dismay at Knicks fans taking over the 76ers\u2019 home arena in Games 3 and 4 of the second-round series in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, I didn\u2019t like it,\u201d Harris said. \u201cIt\u2019s our home court.
