1.\u00a0Newsom outlines his final budget proposal with no deficit, new major spending<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

California Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled his final budget proposal Thursday.<\/p>\n

The plan includes no deficit for his last year of office and the next. It is a $350 billion spending plan that includes little new spending but also avoids major cuts.<\/p>\n

Newsom is eager to safeguard programs that have defined his tenure as the leader of the nation\u2019s most populous state and one of the world\u2019s largest economies.<\/p>\n

Revenues are $16.5 billion higher than projected, thanks to the booming stock market and artificial intelligence industry.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0LA Galaxy announces summer World Cup fan events<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The LA Galaxy announced Thursday an expanded schedule of public events and World Cup 2026 match watch parties across Long Beach, Carson and Hermosa Beach this summer.<\/p>\n

The free multi-week “LA Galaxy Soccer Celebration” will feature public viewings of more than 50 World Cup matches, along with youth soccer clinics, community events and appearances by current and former Galaxy players and other guests, according to the club.<\/p>\n

Activities will begin June 11 with group-stage watch parties in downtown Long Beach along Pine Avenue, Broadway and Lincoln Park, continuing through June 27.<\/p>\n

Additional Round of 16 events are planned July 4-7 at Galaxy Park in Carson, followed by semifinal and final match events July 14-19 in Hermosa Beach, officials said.<\/p>\n

The City of Carson will also host a Fourth of July drone show at Galaxy Park following that day’s World Cup match viewings.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0LA Memorial Day weekend<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0LA Fleet Week will return to the Port of Los Angeles for its 10th year over Memorial Day weekend, bringing active-duty military ship tours, aircraft flyovers and public events to the waterfront.<\/p>\n

The free four-day event, scheduled for May 22-25 in San Pedro, will include tours of U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels, military and first responder exhibits, athletic competitions and live entertainment, according to port officials.<\/p>\n

This year’s celebration will also include patriotic programming tied to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.<\/p>\n

Public tours of active-duty ships will run daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Organizers said visitors will be able to obtain free tour tickets through a same-day virtual queue system.<\/p>\n

To mark America 250,\u00a0\u201cL\u2019Chaim America!,\u201d\u00a0presented by The Braid,\u00a0is a collection of 14 true stories that chronicle and celebrate the Jewish experience in the U.S.<\/p>\n

A handful of actors play multiple roles, speaking directly to the audience as they tell stories that range from a naturalization ceremony to a Jewish Iranian family buying food in a kosher butcher store for the first time to a young man from El Salvador being welcomed by a congregation in Orange County.<\/p>\n

The show will be presented all across Los Angeles, as well as in San Francisco, Orange County and Brooklyn, New York.<\/p>\n
