But what started as a budgeting question quickly turned into a deeper discussion about addiction, money control and safety in the home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\"><strong>Today&#8217;s Best Finance Deals<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Ramsey And Warshaw Press The Caller To Face The Real Issue<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">The caller explained that her husband, who earns their household&#8217;s entire $156,000 income, spends about $6,000 a year on tobacco and marijuana. She added that recent family deaths have caused his usage to spike to about $700 last month alone. \u201cThings are super tight,\u201d she said. \u201cI&#8217;m afraid if I do cut a check, pay off the car, and we gain the $600 monthly to help with groceries and other bills, it&#8217;s just going to go out the window.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\"><strong>Don&#8217;t Miss:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">Host <strong>Dave Ramsey<\/strong> didn&#8217;t dance around the issue. \u201cIf I was to say that my wife was an addict, that would mean that our marriage was either getting ready to end or she was getting help next week,\u201d he said. \u201cBut you use this like it&#8217;s part of the budget.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">He challenged the caller&#8217;s description of her husband as an addict, pointing out that she allows him full access to their joint account where his paycheck is deposited. \u201cIf you\u2019re going to call him an addict, you\u2019re going to have to act like it,\u201d he said. \u201cIf he drinks a six-pack of beer or whatever \u2026 and he\u2019s not drunk and it\u2019s not affecting his work life, but you don\u2019t like it, that\u2019s different than an addict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">Co-host <strong>Jade Warshaw<\/strong> jumped in, asking whether this is a budgetary thing or an actual addiction?<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">The caller insisted that her husband says he wants to get help, but \u201cthe come to Jesus talk happens about every two weeks.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\"><strong>Trending: Named a TIME Best Invention and Backed by 5,000+ Users, Kara&#8217;s Air-to-Water Pod Cuts Plastic and Costs \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/money\/americans-spend-1000-per-year-on-plastic-water-bottles-kara-pod-gives-you-clean-drinking-water-by-pulling-moisture-from-the-air\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>And You Can Invest At Just $6.37\/Share<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">When the caller shared more numbers\u2014a $3,400 mortgage, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/25\/05\/45545468\/average-new-car-loan-payment-is-750-and-costs-are-rising-suze-orman-urges-families-to-consider-if-they-could-get-by-with-one-less-car\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$600 car payment<\/a>, and two $3,900 paychecks hitting their account each month\u2014Ramsey wasn&#8217;t convinced by her claim that they couldn&#8217;t afford groceries. \u201cYou are not out of food because he spent 750 bucks,\u201d he said. \u201cNow, you are going to be out of food if he loses his job because he stays drunk all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">According to Ramsey, the bigger issue wasn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/25\/01\/42793107\/pay-off-the-car-loan-or-save-the-cash-suze-orman-shares-what-makes-the-most-sense-for-a-72-year-old-listeners-25k-dilemma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whether or not to pay off the car<\/a>, but whether her family was in a safe and financially stable environment. \u201cYou\u2019re either going to have to reclassify this in your mind or you\u2019re going to have to take some more severe action than you have been willing to take so far,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"block core-block\">Warshaw and Ramsey both urged her to seek marriage counseling and make a straightforward decision: either treat the problem like an addiction and act accordingly, or stop labeling it as one.
