MELVILLE, Long Island (WABC) — Repair work is underway Friday morning on a large sinkhole on the Long Island Expressway in Suffolk County.<\/p>\n

One westbound lanes remained closed in Melville near exit 49N and was expected to be affected until at least the evening commute.<\/p>\n

The sinkhole is approximately 10 feet in diameter and 8 feet deep.<\/p>\n

NewsCopter 7 was over the scene and could see a car that appeared to be stuck in the hole on Thursday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

No one was injured.<\/p>\n

The left lane, center lane, and the HOV lanes are open as of Friday morning causing some backups. The Northern State Parkway is suggested as an alternative.<\/p>\n
