{"id":79855,"date":"2025-07-21T05:33:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T05:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/79855\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T05:33:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T05:33:10","slug":"eu-budget-plan-would-deal-devastating-blow-to-nature-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/79855\/","title":{"rendered":"EU budget plan would deal \u2018devastating blow\u2019 to nature \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some warn that unless clearly allocated, money will inevitably flow to industrial projects that fit with the Commission&#8217;s competitiveness agenda, leaving unprofitable but no-less-urgent environmental programs unfunded.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[There&#8217;s a] real danger that biodiversity will be sidelined in favour of industrial priorities that may be presented as green investments,\u201d said Ester Asin, director of the WWF European Policy Office.<\/p>\n<p>The EU is already facing an estimated \u20ac37 billion annual biodiversity funding gap, according to the Commission.<\/p>\n<p>In the proposed new budget structure, Europe\u2019s existing \u20ac5.45 billion environmental funding program, <a href=\"https:\/\/cinea.ec.europa.eu\/programmes\/life_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">known as LIFE<\/a>, would merge with other funds dedicated to digitalization and defense into a \u20ac409 billion competitiveness cash pot.
