The chairman of the Weld County GOP was arrested Thursday on suspicion of soliciting a child prostitute, internet luring of a child and attempted child sex assault, all felony charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Larimer County Sheriff\u2019s Office said<\/a> Hunter Rivera, a 24-year-old who lives in Windsor, was arrested during \u201can operation targeting child predators.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cInvestigators posed as minors selling sexual acts on local websites and forums,\u201d the sheriff\u2019s office said in a news release. \u201cSeveral dozen people responded to the listings, and two men arrived at an agreed-upon location to buy sex. They were met by deputies who arrested and booked the men into the Larimer County jail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rivera was being held Friday on a $6,500 cash-only bond.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rivera, who didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment, previously served as an aide to Republican legislators at the Colorado Capitol.<\/p>\n

State House and Senate Republican leaders issued a statement Friday night urging Rivera to resign as chair of the county party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese charges are sickening,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
