It is hard to believe that Dallas College, which began back in the mid-1960s as El Centro, would develop into seven campuses around the metroplex.

Dallas College offers working parents, veterans and first-generation families an opportunity for a low-cost education and hope. It starts at $100 per credit hour that includes the cost of the book.

The Dallas College Foundation offers scholarships to 300 students annually while also helping students overcome financial emergencies. Few institutions do more to strengthen the future of Dallas than Dallas College. Thank you, Dallas, for creating success stories and transforming lives at our very own Dallas College.

Barry Rothschild, Dallas/Preston Hollow

2 Richardson heroes — On May 6 at about 10 p.m., a deranged person called police and threatened to attack and kill. He was sitting in the parking lot outside a Richardson bar where his target, the bartender, worked. He did indeed enter the bar and before it was all over, four people were stabbed.

He was shot dead outside the business by police moments later. The attack was vicious and unhinged, yet real heroes emerged from the melee. The bartender would be dead if not for the heroic efforts of three patrons who came to her rescue.

The bartender was stabbed several times, but her rescuers were also stabbed. One man lost a kidney as a result. Another hero just missed death from stab wounds that nicked his heart and lung. Everyone ended up in an intensive care unit at a local hospital.

The bartender, my spouse’s daughter, would not be alive today without these selfless heroes. In a moment of true danger, they stepped in and saved “Fefe.” I thank these heroes. May God bless them and may their recovery come soon.

3 A positive story — Re: “A ‘tail’ of three horses — A trio of equine friends are helping first graders learn to read,” May 8 news story.

Way to go, Dallas Morning News, by covering such a positive story happening in our community on the front page that encourages reading. How much fun to prepare in class and then go and read to the horses.

Kudos to Equest for offering this program, the St. Phillips School and Community Center for going out the box with your reading curriculum and the horses for taking time from their riding to listen to our readers.

Carol Battalora, Richardson

1 Dallas College — As we enter graduation time for our major universities in the state, Dallas College…

[5135
5229,1596,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-800138","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-dallas","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-dallas","10":"tag-texas","11":"tag-tx","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-united-states-of-america","14":"tag-unitedstates","15":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","16":"tag-us","17":"tag-usa
["GET
