What does that mean for anyone looking to get in or out of New York City from Long Island?<\/p>\n<p>Well, for one, that commute is going to take a whole lot longer. But, it still will be possible.<\/p>\n<p>The MTA, which oversees the LIRR and other area transit systems, has said it will provide free but\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mta.info\/article\/lirr-strike-may-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">limited shuttle buses<\/a>\u00a0during the morning and afternoon rush hours. The agency says the shuttles will depart from six designated LIRR train stations to subway stops in Queens.<\/p>\n<p>See below for a map of what the shuttle bus service will look like:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1778920092_210_LIRR-strike-shuttle-bus-map.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\" \"\/><\/p>\n<p>The buses will go into the city from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m., and to Long Island from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the MTA said. The shuttle bus service is free, though taking the NYC subway or buses will cost the standard fare.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a breakdown of the service that will be provided by station. Peak and reverse peak direction service will be available at:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bay Shore (LIRR) to Howard Beach-JFK Airport\u00a0A\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Huntington (LIRR) to Jamaica-179 St\u00a0F\u00a0at Hillside Av and 179 St<\/li>\n<li>Ronkonkoma (LIRR) to Jamaica-179 St\u00a0F\u00a0at Hillside Av and 179 St<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following stations will have peak direction service <strong>only<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hempstead Lake State Park, near Lakeview (LIRR),\u00a0to Howard Beach-JFK Airport\u00a0A\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Hicksville (LIRR) to Howard Beach-JFK Airport A<\/li>\n<li>Mineola (LIRR) to Howard Beach-JFK Airport A<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NICE Bus<\/p>\n<p>Commuters in Nassau County can also use the NICE Bus service to get to and from different points in Queens. The service is available at peak and reverse peak times. Here are locations where the bus is available:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>179 St (E\/F trains): N1, N6, N6X, N22, N22X, N24, N26<\/li>\n<li>Far Rockaway-Mott Av\u00a0(A train): N31, N31X\/M, N32, N33<\/li>\n<li>Flushing-Main St\u00a0(7 train): N20G, N20X<\/li>\n<li>Jamaica Bus Terminal (short walk from the F train at 169 St): N1, N6, N6X, N22, N22X, N24, N26<\/li>\n<li>Jamaica Ctr-Parsons\/Archer\u00a0(E\/J\/Z trains): N4, N4X<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicebus.com\/Passenger-Information\/LIRR\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">go to the NICE Bus website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Passenger drop-off locations<\/p>\n<p>The following subway stations in Queens can be used to drop-off passengers. The stops are close to major roadways to and from Long Island, but an important note: The stations do <strong>not<\/strong> have parking lots, so parking is not advised.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Far rockaway-Mott Avenue (A train)<\/li>\n<li>Kew Gardens-Union Tpke\u00a0(E\/F trains)\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd\u00a0(A train)\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Sheepshead Bay\u00a0(B\/Q\u200b trains)<\/li>\n<li>Woodhaven Blvd\u00a0(J\u200b train)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Subway series<\/p>\n<p>Fans with tickets to the Yankees-Mets Subway Series at Citi Field this weekend may find it a bit tougher to get to the ballpark without LIRR. But there are other alternatives available.<\/p>\n<p>The Mets added additional shuttles to all the already-existing Long Island game-day shuttle routes, and also added a new shuttle line from the Manhasset LIRR station. Tickets for the shuttle are $8.99 per round-trip ticket, or $25 for a family of four on the new Manhasset route. <\/p>\n<p>Should the strike be lifted and service return, all who purchase shuttle tickets will be automatically refunded.<\/p>\n<p>There are also the other transportation options the team has been offering all season, including:<\/p>\n<p>Are refunds available for LIRR monthly ticket holders?<\/p>\n<p>The MTA said they will issue prorated refunds for May monthly ticket holders for any business days where service is suspended due to the strike.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Long Island Rail Road service is suspended until further notice as unions have gone on strike.
