{"id":800488,"date":"2026-05-16T11:58:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/800488\/"},"modified":"2026-05-16T11:58:16","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:58:16","slug":"hamas-commander-who-helped-plan-oct-7-attacks-has-been-killed-israel-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/800488\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamas commander who helped plan Oct. 7 attacks has been killed, Israel says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A long-serving Hamas commander who replaced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/hamas-chief-mohammed-sinwar-killed-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mohammed Sinwar<\/a> and helped plan the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel was killed on Friday, Israeli officials said Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Izz al-Din al-Haddad was the head of Hamas&#8217; military wing, the Israel Defense Forces\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/idfanc.activetrail.biz\/ANC16052626685852167\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said in a news release<\/a>. The IDF said he &#8220;was involved in the holding of many Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity&#8221; amid the war in Gaza and &#8220;surrounded himself with hostages to prevent his elimination.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Haddad joined Hamas during its early establishment, <a href=\"https:\/\/idfanc.activetrail.biz\/ANC1605202698099355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to the IDF<\/a>. He maintained close ties with Hamas leadership before his death, and recently operated &#8220;to rehabilitate Hamas&#8217; military wing capabilities,&#8221; the Israeli army said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/screenshot-2026-05-16-at-6-42-59-am.png#.png\" alt=\"screenshot-2026-05-16-at-6-42-59-am.png \" height=\"762\" width=\"620\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Izz al-Din al-Haddad.<\/p>\n<p>                Israel Defense Forces<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an important closing of a circle. In all the conversations I had with the abductees who returned, the name of the master murderer, Iz al-Din Haddad &#8230; came up time and time again,&#8221; IDF chief of staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli army said Haddad was killed in a &#8220;precise strike&#8221; in Gaza City. Haddad&#8217;s family also confirmed his death to The Associated Press. His funeral was held in Gaza City on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The AP reported two Israeli strikes in Gaza City on Friday. One targeted a building and another a vehicle, the AP reported. Health officials in the Palestine Red Crescent Society&#8217;s Saraya Field Hospital and Shifa hospital told the AP seven people were killed and dozens more were wounded in the strikes.
